My QT Plan

Fish Ace

Getting home from the LFS I plan transfer to a 5 gal buck 78f , ph 8.2 and hypo 1.009 . Then to the 40B for the next 4-6 weeks at these parms. I plan on using API General Cure and Super Ick. It's all line up for this weekend anyone make any suggestions or changes?

If you are treating the fish with hypo, there is no reason to use another product for Crypt. Fungal, bacterial, worm, etc.. can be treated in conjunction with hypo though.

Give some thought to copper, it's very easy to use, and doesn't require you to acclimate the fish back up to 35ppt salinity. I've also found ionic copper to be much more effective at killing off Crypt in a shorter period of time.

Perhaps some folks do, but I've not heard of anyone keeping a fish in hypo for 6 weeks in case they had a disease. I personally wouldn't treat a fish with hypo unless I saw it had a problem.

I'm not a fan of treating fish without a disease, but maybe Jonathan can move this to the Reef Fish forum to get more fish types of experts to comment. :)

I kind of gather that, however I've been burned and I'm trying to take no chances. I'm sure you have alot of success and I thank you for your help.

If you are going to hypo the fish i dont see any need to use either of those meds. The general cure does have praziquental in it but i would suggest you just use prazipro along with your hypo.No need to use either of the other medications. If you really want to use api general care i would use it at the begginning of the treatment rather then the end before the hypo treatment is started .

when you get home and still plan on using hyposalinity, I would first slowly acclimate over a few days from normal SG to hypo (1.009). transferring straight to 1.009 from 1.020 (assuming that's LFS SG) can be very traumatic on the fish.

I take a prophylactic approach for Crypt with copper simply because just about every fish in this area has it....as for anything else, I treat as required. Most times, anything that the fish drags in will rear it's ugly head within a few days.

Ok some good advice here. I guess I will have get somewhere the salinity between the LFS and my 40B before it goes befoe it goes into the 40B. I'm looking at 1.018 right now.

i bet the LFS keeps their fish only tanks at around 1.020. so you can put the fish into the 5g for a few days and then transfer to the 40B (since it is already at 1.009)

I've got to call to see if they came in. A powder brown or white cheek and a wrasse to start. The three tanks went out the window for now.

powder brown tang in a 5g? and then into a 40g? you'll need a tank that is much larger for that type of fish to live in.
