My Red Sea MAX 2 months old

Hi pussua-clam,
the device attached to the right pump is a
Hydor FLO Rotating Deflector.
Cost about $10.00.
I added this to one of my pumps to generate a more random waterflow in the tank. It turns 360 degrees and is powered by the waterflow that comes out of the pump. Like it a lot. It is cheap and have it in the tank for about 1 month now. Never failed. The only thing I do is rinse it out once a month to remove any dirt or algea.

hey there, tanks lookin great very impressed!!

i got my max on tuesday, added 9kilo of live rock on thursday and another 4kilo's yesterday, slight trace of ammonia today(sat) just waiting for those to come down before adding anything else. think im gonna get a tunze nano stream as the flow isnt enough in my opinion with the amount of rock i've got. is that a 620 seio you've added?

current water params
sg 1.026
alk high!
cal 450ppm
pH 8.2
NO4 0.1ppm
NO3 0
NO4 0

Hi Morello,
welcome to the RedSeaMax family.
I am sure you will enjoy your tank a lot. You might have a few issues with the air bubbles returning into the tank. Hope not but if so just ask me and I will try to help you.
Yes I added a Seio620 and works really nice. It really improves the flow in the tank a lot. But nothing against the Tunze Nano. I would have got one also if my LFS had one available.

Good luck
Michael

Hi again mdekort. I finally took some of the advice that you messaged to me, after going crazy with the skimmer. I cut back on the black skimmer sponge by an inch, and replaced the white pad with new filter material. Finally got rid of the microbubbles, but the skimmer seems to work for a few hours then stops generating much foam in the skimmer neck. I guess I'll try your next suggestion on removing the white pad. Are you still running well in that fashion? Do you have to frequently clean what's left of the black sponge? Without the white pad in place, do you have any problems with stuff (food, etc.) recirculating back into the tank?

Where do you run your water level at in the tank? I have my tank filled to the bottom of the rim. Per the RSM support page I guess that's too high to skim off the top of the water. I'm going to drop the level and see what happens. I think I'll do what I've done on some of my FW tanks to hide that water gap between the rim & the glass - put a piece of black plastic electrical tape around the top edge.

Just ordered that little Hydor FLO device to try too. I haven't added a powerhead on the right side yet though. I was looking at the magnetic through the glass Vortecs - those would be great but the price of $345 is way too high for me!

Thanks for your advice.

thanks for your reply michael

the skimmer is producing a thicker foam today, but i still have bubbles in the tank. i am only using 10cm of the black foam and some live rock rubble in the chamber under the two powerheads. also added a bag of elimi-phos today when i got home from work but haven't used the ceramics or carbon. hopefully the bubbles will subside in a few days now the skimmer is starting to "mature" so to speak. i am hoping i can get some additional flow sorted very soon also. hopefully a tunze 6025 but getting my hands on one may prove difficult, also i've heard of one or two problems people have had with them :S

thanks again,

mike

ps - will post pictures soon :D
