My Sps Growth Thread

Well, I don't have a lot of amazing/huge acros yet, but I have kept track of the growth on a bunch of my montis. I'll continue to update this as things grow and hopefully add some acro pics later on.

what is the difference between the Spongodes and the Confusa..they look like the same type of coral. how come 2 different names

luvdiving, we have 400w Radiums in 15" of water so the growth is very good. 14k 400w Ushios were too strong for our corals. We also have lumenbrite lg reflectors which make a huge difference. If you have a normal depth tank, I think you will get better growth with a 10k or 14k bulb. But for us the 400w Radiums are the perfect bulb for growth and coloration considering that our corals are so close to the lights.

Saltybrine, well my spongodes doesn't have purple tips, it is solid light green. It also has thinner branches.
As you can see from the pictures, until recently my confusa was darker green with a more angular growth pattern. They look more like the same coral now, but I think that's because I had the confusa under lower lighting the last few months and it has spread out more.

Now I think my confusa and my vietnamensis (not shown here) look almost identical, but the vietnamensis has icy blue tips and my confusa has violet tips.

But who knows, there's so much crossing with sps? I gave up awhile ago on being perfect with coral names. You can go crazy trying to assign names to acros. At least with montis its a little easier.

nice pics of the growth! i always wanted to do a monthly pics of the corals and their growths each month.. might not noticed the difference until looking back at the pics.
