My stupidity

Ok, so my sun coral was doing great. Feeding brine every other day with turkey baster. It's like it knew when feeding time was because it started opening at that time every day without any coaxing.

Then I got lazy and didn't feed it for a week...

Now I haven't been able to get it to open for 2 weeks to eat. Every time I tried my pygmy angel would steal the food.

So today I took it out, put it into a bowl and put some brine and phyto plankton in with it.... 4 hours later only open a tiny bit. I can barely see the yellow sticking out. So I've laid brine on each head.

How long can it sit in this bowl with brine???? What do I do????

You should look into feeding it cyclop-eeze and mysis. Since the coral is weak, I would start out with bowl or bucket feeding it cyclop-eeze first. Personally, I only keep the coral in a bucket for 45 minutes max. Put a cover over the bucket so it is completely darkened and the coral will open to feed. Once you start to get better polyp extension, move on to mysis.

4 hours is a long time without aeration, flow, heat, and with rotting organic matter in a small vessel. Personally I wouldnt go more than an hour. Try feeding it after lights out instead when the fish arent as active, or make a hood out of a plastic soda bottle. Place the hood over it and feed it through the top hole.

I think live brine is a nice teaser for sun corals but all of mine eat really bigger foods like mysis as well. That's sort of their main food. You'll be suprised how much they can pack away.
Good Luck :)

It opened a teeeny bit last night after lights out and I was able to feed a couple of the polyps. Hopefully better success tonight.
