Just wanted to share something that is hopefully helpful. I have purchased and placed 2 ritteri anemones in my reef where they stayed put.
Background: I have kept a total of 4 ritteri anemones in less than 2 years. First 2 were treated then after a 3 months of owning I ended up selling because it moved too much. I treated both of them til it was healthy before placing in the display. My treatment was done in a 10gal with Cipro and the anemone was under a 150watt halide for a week. I always bought from the store where the mouth of the anemone was not gaping but was not very tight each time.
After treatment and the anemone has gained its sticky tentacles I place the unattached anemone into the display directly under the light which was an XR30. No matter what I did it always wandered around with the feet inflated. I believe this was a key failure on my part to place an unattached anemone.
I really wanted this anemone so here is my very successful round 2 experience.
My new anemones which I bought 2 months apart and 2 different sources were relatively healthy but not sticky. I decided to quarantine until it was sticky. This time around I placed it in a 6" hydroponic container with a flat smooth rock on the bottom. It seems that the anemones do not like to attach to the plastic with lots of slits. It attached to the flat rock very tightly and the feet/base was not bloated. I placed it directly under the light and after a few days it was sticky again.
Next step was place it in my frag tank for 2 days in the same plastic while attached to the rock to get used to the water since it's tied to my display tank.
After 2 days I glued the rock the anemone was attached to to a pedestal I created under the light(narrow kessil 360N and xr30). The radions are not directly above.
I turned the powerheads off for 15 minutes to allow the glue to dry and they have not moved since.
I hope this helps someone. I almost gave up keeping this anemone due to its mobile tendencies.
FYI I tried a kessil 160we and the anemone moved around the pedestal a little bit.
The smaller one is a purple base with blue tips and the larger is brown base with white tips.
Tank is a 150 cube and using 2 Neptune's wav pumps and an L1 return.
