my tang has ich and i dont have a QT??

im extremely nervous because he really isnt swimming, he is just kind of sitting in one corner breathing a little faster than normal.

Yeah, don't use water from your main tank because it's already infected with the Ich. If you keep replacing bad water with water that has Ich in it, your fish will never get better. They say to use water from your main tank for the first time that you fill up your QT tank so the fish feel as if they are at home. But after that, do PWC's and the bad water from the main tank will be changed out (theoretically) in a week or two leaving only fresh water behind.

Doing 50% daily water changes using NSW isnt good either.. It will cause up and down PH and temp swings that will stress the fish out worse. Do small water changes like 10%. Get some Prime to control the ammonia and buffer to keep the PH steady. Add a air stone and air pump to add oxygen. Turn off the light and leave it alone, you want to keep it from stressing out and the illness taking over.

Putting a already sick Tang in a 29 gallon tank with no bio filter is a bad idea that is what I said before, tangs don't do well in small tanks with bad water quality.

well he is in a 29 gallon by himself. and i will do 10% water changes like twice a day with water from my shark tank. thank you guys for all of the help. i will update you tomorrow. oh yea, should i put some ammonia detox in before i go to bed for the night?

I have 2 qt tanks going right now. I do daily 20-50% water changes and my fish are doing wonderful. Important thing is to keep water pristine and prevent ammonia spikes. Are you using Copper or Hypo?

im using copper. so if i do 5 gallon water changes daily, the water should be fine? my ammonia has tested zero this afternoon luckily. also, will the foggy haze color of the water fade with age of the water? also, should i put reef tank water in the qt tank or put fresh saltwater in there?

thanks everybody. he is doing so much better. the ammonia in the qt tank is 0!! his ich is not noticable anymore, but he will stay there for about a month, and he is eating like a pig again!!! thanks again everybody.

definately keep him in there for 6-8 weeks to make sure the parasite has died off in the main tank. Last thing you want is to put him back in the tank only to have him infected again within a week.

so if im doing 5 gallon water changes every afternoon, will the foggy yellow color of the water eventually go away?

Yes, in time it will. Once the levels have had a chance to settle. Mine was a greenish yellow tint for about a week or so until things got settled.

ok, yea. that is what it looks like. so after about a week of doing daily 5 gallon water changes i shouldnt have to do anymore because it should be cycled correct? also, do you recommend putting a skimmer on it?

No skimmer, that will pull some of the medicine out and keep your wc's up until your levels are ok after 3 or 4 days. After 3 weeks, I still change the water in my QT every other day, about 5-7 gallons (20g tank). I do it to ensure good water quality and it takes me less then 20 minutes so it's not all that difficult.

If you are using Copper, ammonia will always be a problem..you will need to continue to do water changes everyday or every other day.

Interesting thread Not a hijack, but what should one do about the main tank now? there will be parasirtes in it, so how is that cleaned out?

I've got a ittty bitty yellow tang that is showing some signs of ich, and I was looking at moving him, but what do you do with the rest of the inhabitants?

LOL this hobby's gonna kill me

move them too. ^

Also if using cupramine copper-- do not use a ammoina lock-- like prime or amquel... It will cause the copper to become very toxic..

thanks everybody!!! he is doing great now. he has been in there for a week now and is doing spectacular. i will leave him in there for at least another week.

thanks again!!!

One more week for the ich to boost themselves back up and then back in the main tank they go. Wooohoooo!! :eek2:

im extremely excited, because i have only had him in the tank for about a day until i had to take him out because of the ich!!:)
