My tank after 2 years!

I thought I would share my tank since i think, right now its beautiful :)

Last week I replaced my entire lighting, with a new ballast and all new bulbs,
I decided to go with the Sunlight Supply ballast, the dual 250 watt and the bulbs
are 2x Hamilton 14k's, which i must say are spectacular, but in the future I do want
to try 20k bulbs, I also got a maxi jet sure flow kit, and these things are amazing, a little noisy but amazing flow compared to my seios, which are much bulkier.
I am also adding a UV sterilizer to my system in the coming weeks, even though I already have a ozonizer, UV kills bacteria. I am currently running an ASM G1-X, which i plan on upgrading to a Euro-Reef RS135. Im also thinking of adding a chiller to the system but right now thats not in my budget. But I have many things in mind that I want to purchase over the next few months/years. Like....
-2x Tunze 6101 w/ multi controller
-Aqua controller

But thats all in the future :)

In the mean while, ill try and get rid of the ich thats been on my yellow tang and sailfin, my Labouts fairy wrasse had it but not its all cleared up... My rusty angel had it but it perished a couple days ago, and I'm concerned that, that may have been the culprit, so thats also one reason Im getting that UV.. But enjoy the pics, hope you like it as much as I do!

Oh, and if you have an suggestions to what i should add to my tank, either livestock wise or equipment, I am trying to look for more ways to make it better.

You should really take all the fish out and put them in QT. That yellow tang has ich pretty bad. You can't effectively fish ich in a DT very easy.

yea im planning on moving them into a QT, but im also planning on adding a UV to the tank while all the fish are out, what would you recommend to dose in the QT tank!

Well, moving them to QT may just stress them out even more. Especially because you would need to have them in QT for at least 6 weeks. You might post that shot of the Yellow tang in the disease forum. See what the experts say is the best approach at this point.

BTW: Love the tank and new bulbs. Do you use any actinic supplement?

Actually there was a post on this forum regarding ich and the unnessessary use of a UV sterilizer. There was actual research done to indicate this. I will try to find this post. The thread also mentioned that the majority of cases of marine ich will dissipate on its own and is more stressing on the fish to fish it out of the tank and transfer to the QT tank. Stress is the major contributer to an outbreak of marine ich.

I have used UV on a DT ich outbreak! 6 weeks it was history. You have to go over kill. Ich is free floating in the water at one stage in its little life cycle. When it detaches its dead if I remember right. I breeds in the sand then releases into the water column to start looking for a host (fish). A strong UV will kill it at that point. It takes time but it will taper off then go away totally. Once its gone I started slowly tapering down the UV with a timer until I started to see a little sign of it coming back. Then I knew how long the UV need to run to keep it at bay. If I remember right I ran UV for a total of 6 months at around 12 hrs split 4 ways a day and was able to finally take it off the tank. The fish are at a year ich free!

Just a little tip on what I did. You have to nuke it though. Get a strong UV.

Good luck!

PS I don't think it really hurts to much if you wanted to just leave the UV for good. Just cycle it on and off. Its better though if you can build the fish up to be able to fight it on there own.

my powder blue had ich about 3 times that bad and i soaked there food in garlic to build his ammunity and i did run a uv too. i have been preaching about garlic but what if it was the uv all along??????????????

I am using garlic since it has cured ich in my tank before, as well as pop eye on my Naso, and is there and UV that you guys would recommend, like brand and what wattage would be good.

UV won't do no good. It won't get it all. There is nothing saying that ich runs its life cycle at the same time. So you could have some in the free floating stage, some on the fish, and some on the substrate. You will always have it in the tank unless you do a complete QT. Garlic also has no scientific proof that it works.
