My tank clicks at night

lol ok i think i know where that is, i have a bone yard towards the back. i guess ill have to stake out and see what i can find. he is gonna be a pain to catch though haha.

IKf you got a nice piece of live rock, and th pistgol was inside, BONUS!!! They are so cool. Have you noticed any new holes in the sand, or sand moved for no reason? Mine will only come out wehen the goby "tells" it too. They are such a cool pair, and if you find that it is a pistol, you got yourself a $35.00 hitchhiker! BONUS!

well there was a small spot dug out under one piece of lr, but it has since closed up. and i dont have a goby yet, he may be the next addition. but if i got a mantis i dont want the goby to become a snack.

I doubt a mantis will crack the glass unless it is large, and you have thin glass? I believe there is only one type that can do that? I could be wrong, but from what I understand there is a tiny chance of that happening, not impossible. I have had a couple of mantises in my tank, now removed and they are simply amazing creatures. don't kill it, take it to the LFS or give away.

Still hung up on the pistol. You will not see him much if at all. He will move the hole around the tank, and click when someone comes toward the holes. I;m rooting for the pistol!

coincidentally I have found out I have a pistol. I figured it was that or a mantis(again) but I saw part of him and have seen tons of burrows around and had no idea what the heck was doing it. So putting all of this together, must be a pistol :) Weird thing is my saddled Blenny is constantly around where he is.

I have a Pistol Shrimp that is paired with its buddy, the Yellow Watchman Goby. This interaction and symbiotic relationship they share is my favorite thing in tank to watch. Mine just stay under one of my base Live Rock with 4 exit points. Very Cool!!!!
You should get a Yellow Watchman Goby in my opinion to pair it up. I had my Goby, put shrimp in 2 weeks later, they found eachother within a week.

BTW....invest in a $5 red light....great for "night" viewing...grab a beer (or two), turn all lights off including room where the tank is, turn red light on and watch.....maybe even grab some pop-corn

yeah mine does this too and I just have fish and one emerald crab that is the size of my thumb nail.

Do emeralds make those clicking sounds?

any red light?

Does the red light really work? I have heard it is complete shenanananagians?

so not believe emeralds click, at least at some sort of consistent level.

not sure about red, i camped out last night with my moon lights on, but so far no luck, if he came out it was in the shadows of the rock work. but when my pajama swims behind one set of rocks the clicks start, so i think thats where i will focus my search.

I just caught what I think to be a mantis But looking at it closely I am not sure. It is about 2" long and kinda black with dark green spots. Any ideas. I will try to post a pic. Also what ever this is he does not click at night. He does during the day. One click at a time. I have not seen any dug up holes or no dead critters. He is very active when lights are on. I feel I was lucky as I caught him with a net. Any help.

well does it look like a cross between a praying mantis, shrimp and a lobster?

Mantis are pretty hard to catch, may be one... they are amazing creatures.

yes kind of a cross between what you listed. The part being hard to catch is why I am not sure as he was right out in the open.
