looks like a good deal at the frag swap---I wish we still had them around here.

If you already know this, then I apologize, but sps corals included should be introduced at the bottom levels of the tank and gradually brought up to the top

once again good looking frags

i just introduced many sps frags into my tank and they went from VHO to 2 250 MH. how fast or slow should i be bringing them up. i put them too high before and they got light shock and lost color and tissue, but now they are recovering. tissue is still gone, but slowly coming back.

every five days or so----low light for that time won't make a difference to them as to shocking them in too much light as you reported

because they were damaged i have had them at the bottom for a few weeks now. they are looking better. i also cut the photoperiod back from 8hrs to 6hrs. it is back to 7hrs now. should i go ahead and start moving these frags up now? how much? a few inches each time?

just let us know how it goes. i just dont know if it is a good idea to keep so many fish and corals in a tank that is so young. i mean that looks like a small amount of live rock to have had in a 55, and if the 55 was up for 4 years the rock would be completely coated in coralline, not patchy. good luck, let us know.

I didnt have a choice though! it was tear down my 55 and set up my 90. i purchased pre made saltwater from saltycritter to help keep the cycle as short as possible. i would have never just purchased all these fish and just thrown them into a brand new tank. and i also got a few pieces of dead rock to fill in, the rest of the live rock is pretty well covered except for the parts that werent exposed to light in the old tank.

i would recommend watching closely and just have some ro/di water already mixed and at the right temperature, just in case you get a spike. you should be ok. i wish you luck, you have some nice stuff i would hate to see it go, and i know you would too.

i personally just added 50lbs of rock that was dead live rock. i cycled it in a garbage can, but am still watching the levels and if it has any problems i have 20 gallons of ro/di that is mixed and at the right temp ready to go.

good luck, honestly.

I wouldn't worry much I did the same thing with 10 lbs if lr , 12 lbs of live sand and that's all All from a 9 gal nano into a 75 gal. Which is running great by the way. Nothing died. So best of luck to you there are a lot of people whom don't give any help just criticize.

At first I jumped the gun "in my head" and said "wow that's really fast..." then I noticed the 4 years and 3 reef tanks BEFORE I jumped the gun on my key board!

You'll be fine and remember we're all human:)

i have been worried about my livestock like i would a member of my family. i agree that it is too soon to add sps frags of course! but in the next yr i will have ZERO percent chance of getting those 4 frags for the price i got them at. so i took a gamble. I have no intention of adding anything else anytime soon. thank you to all who offered yopur opinions in a respectful manner!

you will find that is the norm here:smokin:

I'm not sure what all the excitement is about. Moving fully cured live rock and livestock from fully cycled tank to a new tank does not mean you start over from scratch. If that was the case, no one could ever upgrade their tanks.

The only real cause for concern might be the new dead base rock if it contained much in the way of dead matter that you did not know about, but I think you would know if that was a problem by now.

There is no reason that the SPS frags can't do just fine in this 'new' tank and the equipment list looks fine for SPS health as well. Keep the feeding levels on the low side as things have a chance to fully settle in and have fun with your upgrade!

I agree with you Ken, the thread just got off with a bad start but I think everyone is cool now;)

It was just a Jump! to conclusions mat thing. We all just assumed that it was a totally new tank. Seen it a million times.

that base rock was pressure washed at the car wash for about 20 minutes so it should be ok! and thanks for the tip i prolly should feed a tad under normal for a while!
