My tank LEAKED!

Must have a horse shoe up your you know what to be home, hear the tank let loose, only loose 10 gallons of water and have a direct replacement tank a couple hours away. To loose the full tank of water, in this hot weather, while not home... ouch, time to get to know (and probably hate) your home owners insurance provider.

Upon further review, it appears that we DO indeed have lucky horse shoes up our you-know-whats. She thought it was an old set of car keys we'd lost, and I thought it was the remote for an old VCR. But now we know why we set off metal detectors in airports - it's the lucky horse shoes we've been smuggling!

If it makes us seem any less lucky, I didn't hear the tank let loose - I heard an outlet blow (all are on GFCI's, so I'm not sure why I heard something - guess I should check the outlets too...)

Just got back from Pet World with the tank. I'm about to slap on the 1st coat of black paint on the back. Coat #2 (and hopefully final) tomorrow. Swap tanks off the stand on Wed (anybody free to help?) and hopefully have some life back in it on Friday.

Many thanks to Siropa for the 40 breeder that I was able to spread my corals out in - much better than the 29 they were in. And thanks to Yaitsisme for the HOB skimmer!

And thanks in advance to Craig - he's gonna help me swap the tanks new-for-old. Actually if anyone else wants to come and mourn with me, we could have an anti-meet. I could show you guys how to prepare for and handle a leak should you be unlucky enough to have one someday. I know I've learned a few things in the past 22 hours!

Here's the corals. Don't worry Bill - the spreader bars aren't on there anymore. That chamber is filled with water now - I grabbed those when I realized that plexi was bowing a bit from al the water in the other 2/3 of the tank. ;) And you've gotta love the ladder to hold the light. :bum:

And here's my dining room as of 5am this morning. It's a bigger mess right now - but I'll spare you those pics. ;)

when are you doing the tank move?

I used to use a piece of PVC in the other direction to hold that plexi in place. when I had it filled as a fuge it would bow out.

WOW, real bummer.
Was your stand an AG/ Aqueon stand?
If so, have you contacted Aqueon to see what they say?
(if the stand is not from them don't even bother )
So many tales of large tank failures has to make one wonder.
At least my most recent 125 was sitting around for some time at Aquatic World before I bought it. Still had AG stickers on it, not Aqueon.
Good luck with your move.

Tank and stand were AGA. New tankis Aqueon. Called Aqueon yesterday but didn't hear anything back - had to pull the trigger on a tank. I don't have much hope on them coming through with anything warranty-related after talking with someone from a Pet Land store down south yesterday - he made it sound like they rarely make good on warranty claims.

What did your wife think of the whole ordeal? Hope all works out well for you. If you need anything we talked about on the phone yesterday feel free to let me know.

Eric

Oh ya, feel the ma-serious power of the Red Sea Prizm!

Ladies and Gens, that little honey is for sale if anyone is planning ahead for their AGA/Aqueon's failure.

Looked like a read sweet setup, love the cherry stand/hood.

BTW, love the spreader clamp... one of the first things I noticed in the pic.

LOL! A must-have in any aquarium setup. :D

Eric - my wife's bummed (like me) but also realized that $@!+ happens. We both knew that having a giant glass box of water sitting in our house would come with a bit of risk - but at the same time we just kind of never gave it serious thought. She's just bummed right now because she misses watching Lenny (the starry blenny). If anything she's just being driven a bit nuts with the mess in the dining room since she's a neat-freak. We're both kind of having flashbacks to Dec/Jan when the tank was being set up. LOL

On the plus side, the corals all seem to be doing pretty well and I just saw a bunch of the fish swimming around - including the fathead anthias - which must have been hiding/sleeping in a rock when I emptied the tank because I don't remember netting it. Gonna do an ammonia test today on the Brute-o'-Fish to see if anything looks ugly.
