Thanks, guys:) When I upgraded to my 120 I sold the T5's and went with MH. I have two 250 watt SE 20K XM's......really like the look and my corals seem happy too.

Glad to see your moorish idol doing well Janey! It's a beautiful fish.

Thanks to all for the kind words.....I really love this hobby and all the nice people I've met:)

My daughter works at Iowa Pet and told me about this one.......they get them in from time to time. Be sure it is eating with gusto before you buy one.......they have a poor track record in captivity, but this one seems to be doing well. He eats most any frozen food, loves spirlina flakes, New Life Spectrum and Formula One and Two pellet......he also loves bananas:)

bananas.. lol, Is paulb still trying that? If you ever happen to hear of another healthy one coming in give me a hollar.

actually after I just read the little info from Live aquaria, it says not to keep with corals and polyps. Have you had any trouble with that?

I've had no trouble.......so far:) I've read that some are reef safe, some not......I had "Gilligan" in a 29 gallon quarantine tank which had corals and he didn't bother them....... so hoping I got a "reef safe" one. He's a juvenile too which helps as far as acclimation goes. I think that's one reason he took to so many different kinds of food.

I think the one thing that probably won't survive with an Idol are sponges. That is their natural diet.

I am heading to Hawaii next month to dive and my brother says that these fish are everywhere! I have always wanted one but have been concerned with everything mentioned here. I am thinking that I will just have him catch me one and make sure it is healthy and eating and the right size and then have him get it to me somehow. Your does not look that big....does it have any streamers yet?

He's a juvenile about 3 1/2 inches from mouth to tail. He doesn't have the thin black stripe that adults get next to the tail stripe. He had a streamer about 3 inches or so long but got nipped off early on by my fuzzy lionfish! I think the lion thought it was food.......streamers grow extremely fast a quarter inch or so over night. I trained him to eat pellet out of a little glass dish while in quarantine. Today, I hooked up the feeding dish with a tube, like Paul B did, and it works great for feeding pellet.......check out "The Moorish Idol" thread on RC for more info and pics...........I wish you well in your Idol endeavor!
