Mycedium Robokaki...who has one?

This thread was pointless from the beginning, I don't understand the reasoning for pretending you bought a coral so you can see if people approve of it? Plus now who ever was planning on bidding on that auction before this topic was started, now as no shot at buying it at a decent price with a group of people waiting to bid on it at the last minute...

So who is the seller in this case? Now I am only bidding $375....

hah pretending you're going to bid a lot on a certain item will no longer scare people off from bidding on it (good try though).;)

Not pretending, just making up numbers. Seems some people are pretty protective of this coral. I might bid if it does not go too high, but I agree with you, someone wanted this price to go high, otherwise why would you post pics.

The great part is that its a frag. You know next week the seller will have another, and the week after he'll have another, and another. The Aussie mycediums I see coming in are usually 8 inchs in diameter. Imagine how many frags he'll have.

Im glad you see my point of view! Now tell me the difference between that and the Bazooka Joe, Pink watermellon, Mummy eye, um shall I continue?:D

they still are "just" cheap wild pieces, you just dont buy them from Ebay or RC. You go to your LFS, or drive to a good LFS if yours sux...

I agree with MinibowMatt, If we buy them from reputable LFS's we can get them cheaper and even better get them off of fellow reefer's. I picked up this mycedium a week ago. Not as pretty as the ones shown but I think it is nice. Traded for a frag of my Blasto Merletti and a frag of my duncan.... Here's a pic

The main difference.............we already know people will pay $200 a frag for above mention. :)

There's another major difference. A frag of Bazooka Joe or any other named piece is not "wild." It was not pulled right out of the ocean off or ripped off a reef and shipped to your local store. It was aquacultured at some risk and expense to the hobbyist.

that is not exactly true... If I were like a lot of folks on RC, I could drive to my LFS, buy several chalice corals, that ARE the exact same as the "named" ones, and sell them for the same price they command here.. and people WILL pay, 90% wont even ask for"lineage" and I will make a killing....
lots of people buy wild, and call it the same "name" as "lineaged" corals all the time on RC, post pics, and then sell it a month later.. we have all seen it.
Did you ask for lineage on your first one or two "LE" pieces? I know i didnt. you only need to get a few *suckers* to make a ton of money on a wild coral.

How do you prove lineage? I mean I thought anyone could say that it came from anyone. Do the corals come with papers? Oh yeah, 15 min, and price is climbing...

Matt, I would like to see LE lookalikes without lineage that you could sell as LE's. Please show me a Bazooka Joe imposter you grabbed from your LFS. Let' see some others "that ARE the exact same as the named ones". What you got!? MY LFS's have nothing of the sort. Where are you shopping? Maybe I should be buying frags from you. =)

Not true at all. The Bazooka Joe was plucked off the reef just like every other coral. It went to one person. If you were to go to that person you would be recieving a frag off a wild colony, or if you maintained and grew it out, it would be first generation aquaculture and frags from you would be 2nd generation.

There is absolutely no difference between that ebay frag and a bazooka joe frag other than the obvious morphology and specie. That ebay piece is a grown out frag from a wild colony, just like if you were to drive up here to Sac and visit John@yourreef himself and buy the bazooka joe off him(the source). Doesnt make the ebay frag wild, just possibly it's mother and even that is a speculation! This may be a grandbaby!!. This is how it's been since the game started. The only difference I see here is that it has not gone to Tyree to be made an LE...yet!

I see you joined in 2006, so surely you dont forget the big superman monti fiasco?? I bought one of those at my LFS about the same time the real deal came out.

Although there may not be a coral that has been discovered that has the same pigment as the Bazooka Joe, doesnt necessarily mean another identical morph just as brilliant wasnt also distributed at or around the same time, which happens more often than not with exotic corals. There is usually a handfull of identicals, that get distributed abroad the globe usually to favored clientel or sometimes will occasionally surprise a small but faithfull client(your LFS! If they tranship ;) ). Another reason you may notice if you've ever seen a wholeseller or LFS that get's transhipments, the species of coral and the morphs come in like the seasons, as they move lagoon to lagoon in their collecting.
The sister or brother of Bazooka Joe may be sitting in some dudes tank who just doesnt have the husbandry skills or equipment to discover what he trully has..

These corals are out there, John who coined the Bazooka Joe got it like any other LFS owner, maybe you outta talk to yours?

Thanx Justin, Now I dont have to type that....

Im not saying that AT MY LFS RIGHT NOW is a bazooka joe clone. I am just saying they are out there sitting in LFS tanks....maybe under different/worse lighting, maybe underfed or in trouble, but they are out there....

Oh- congrats to Steve on getting a good deal...

oh, and the only lineaged LE piece i have is Idaho Grape cap I grew from a chip I got in a trade--all my other lookalikes came from other trades and my LFS, which does tranship, and has great suppliers...
