2) and the other thing that gets me is when people show off pics of their super expensive LE coral and it and a bunch of other corals are sitting on egg crate - not sand or rock. now i have a tank that is set up as frag tank with only crate too - but thats for my frags of corals from my display. it just seems obvious that these people don't put these corals in their displays because it is easier to frag if they don't grow onto their rockwork. obviously these corals are in a prop system not a display so imo that is commercial not hobby. i buy corals for my display and if they do well and grow for me then i frag them - i don't buy to frag

I have a BUNCH of high end corals on egg crate for the reasons that Ianiwane stated and because I want them to be easily fraggable. That way I can cut and trade. Ive been having LOTS of fun making trades with far away reefers to get new pieces I wouldnt normally be able to get my hands on. If I do decide to sell, SO WHAT?? The money just goes right back into the tank!!

I bring this up not to justify my corals on eggcrate, because I don't need to justify what I do with my corals... I bring it up because its part of my hobby that I enjoy, cutting and trading. Who is anybody else to judge what one does with THEIR OWN corals???

Really, if you dont like the LE thing, or the buying and selling of small frags, simpily dont participate!! Who is anyone else to judge how another enjoys their hobby??

not that my opinion matters but here it is:

1) what turns me off of the whole buy and chop phenom happening in the LPS world is the size of the frags.
- but the direction currently seems to be smaller and smaller frags

2) now i have a tank that is set up as frag tank with only crate too - but thats for my frags of corals from my display. it just seems obvious that these people don't put these corals in their displays because it is easier to frag if they don't grow onto their rockwork. obviously these corals are in a prop system not a display so imo that is commercial not hobby.

sorry guys i knew my opnion would not be popular with many but i didn't mean to offend. if you read my post you would realize that i frag too... a lot as a matter of fact.

growing out, trading, selling is part of my hobby as well. and i have no problem with LE corals - wish i owned more.

i wasn't judging anyone i was just saying that it seems silly to me to see people selling frags of frags that haven't even encrusted over the plug yet - but to each their own of course
happy reefing ;)

Here is the piece.
