Mysteries of saltwater

I've been doing this long enough to know that from time to time fish just disappear, but I havnt seen my vlamingii tang for a couple days! This guy has been super healthy. Eats like a beast! I did a water change and had a lil temp dip ( got down to 74 ). I don't really see either of these things killing a big *** healthy fish. All other fish are accounted for and happy. How does a 4 in fish disappear? Does anyone know of a vlamingii to hide for extended periods of time? Any other ideas?

I had a helfrichi firefish make it's way into the over flow once, almost a year later we started tearing down the tank and found it, alive! It's still alive and well in Eugenes tank. I doubt this is your case just reminded me of this story :-)

Had the same thing happen to me with my 4 inch foxface, he disappeared for a week when I did a water change after re-doing my rocksacape. The way my rockwork is set-up there are sooo many places for him to hide. I thought just in case he was dead I'd better keep checking my nitrates, but day after day they kept showing no nitrate jump. A week later he turned up still healthy and happy, maybe he just wanted some quiet time, who knows. Hopefully yours is still alive and well, just hiding somewhere.

Haha yea I checked the overflow towers but no fish. I do hope he just wanted some peace and quiet and will turn back up

That's odd for a tang. Have you looked behind the stand? Maybe carpet surfing. Foxfaces are very timid and scared so I can understand them hiding, firefish are jumpers so I understand that in the overflow. But a vlamingi tang? Not jumpers that I know of and should not be a timid fish..

How long have you had the fish. I did have one a long time agofor a few weeks was doing great then hid in the rocks and a few days later found it dead wedged in the same rock.

I've had him for a couple months total. In my new tank for a few weeks. He still hasn't been spotted so he's presumed dead. What a bummer. Was a damn cool fish

DId you check behind the tank? I have found a few non-animated crispy fish behind my tank in my years in this hobby. They were both hawkfish though. Although that would be unusual for a tang.
