Today I found my mandarin goby stuck in a maxi-jet power head. This is the second unexplained fish death in the last 6 months. I saw the mandarin just yesterday swimming all over the tank (fat and healthy). I am positive that the death was not starvation (I know mandarins are finicky eaters, But my tank is a well established 65 gallon (over 2.5 years old) with a 20 gallon refugium). A couple of months ago, my healthy appearing pygmy angelfish went missing and I never found any trace of him.
What could be some possible reasons for these deaths? I do not think either had to do with the fishes health, because there were no visible signs of disease or starvation, and both fish showed normal behavior before they went missing.
What are some possibilities? My tank parameters are all good and the corals are all flourishing (sps, lps, and softies) so I am assuming that there is nothing wrong with the water because the corals (which I assume are more sensitive) are all doing great.
