i currently have a 40breeder reef and the only fish i can keep alive is bar goby's. i had a pair of clowns for a few months and a gramma for a month but they always seem to die or disapear. they all eat a gourmet of food and all the tests come out normal. the coral is growing good. all the crabs and snails are doing well. the only problem is a slight salinity change in the range of 1.022 to 1.030 but most of the time its much closer to a 1.026. any idea's?

that's not a slight salinity change, if it happens fairly quickly due to massive evaporation and high temps then that may very well stress and kill a fish.
how is your water movement? there may be a lack of 02 in the water, especially if the temps are higher than 82*
post your parameters also. saying they are normal does not help.

i agree that is not a slight change in salinity. i dont know if it would be enough to kill a fish, but certainly possible. did the fish have any symptoms?

What type of meter are you using to test for your Specific Gravity? Looks like user error or a meter problem giving you eratic readings. The only way the SG is going to change that much is if you do a major water change or temps changing with lots of evaporation. When you do have evaporation, what are you using to top of the water with?
