Mystery Paly/Zoa please ID!

Okay folks I bought this little frag and I can't for the life of me figure out if it has a name :blown:. I have reseaerched online and on coralpedia and I can't find anything that matches it. Everyone I have asked does not know either.

Under the day lights it looks like a grayish black with not much color but still looks really cool. When the actinics come on they look just like AOG's except these polyps are smaller than the big AOG polyps I am used to seeing. They also dont have that darker line through the disk like AOGs do. I have had them for about a month and they have not changed at all.
If anyone can help I would be very happy. I don't plan on fragging these or anything. I just want them to grow out and cover the rock they are now on :dance:

Thats exactly what i think they might be but what stumps me is that under the actinic lights they look bright pink but maybe they look like that becasue of the type of lighting they were under before my tank... Maybe in time they will morph.

If anyone else had any ideas please let me know. BTW they are under 2 18" PC bulbs. 1 is 10K and the other is actinic

We think they are called Rainbow Sunflower zoas but still open to suggestions. Does that name ring a bell?

reminds me of a zoanthid with a dark frill and peachy yellow centre that fluoresces pink...lol...the name game makes me laugh...

unless people are getting corals from the people who first coined the goofy names for them with signed papers to prove it, what is the point? just a marketing gimmick that sadly has taken the hobby by storm..<end rant>

your zoas are pretty, why cant people leave it at that? and call it a purple and peach zoa from (insert ocean/region here)

The reason I like to identify them by name is because its easy to tell someone what you have. Instead of telling them I have some "zoanthid with a dark frill and peachy yellow centre that fluoresces pink" I can just tell them to look up on Google rainbow sunflower zoanthid and there is a very good chance they will see exactly what I am talking about.

Second I don't understand why you choose to come into the dedicated zoanthid identification thread that this awesome forum has provided and question my curiosity for knowing the common name for this particular color morph.

well there you go...IF you received the frag from the person who named the coral and have papers to PROVE that is what it is, then you could say that...otherwise your telling/selling someone something that that may or may not be...that is where i am going with this...

the silly name game cracks me up..

sorry for the rant, i have just seen far too many people try to pass of corals as "such and such" with out a shred of proof or evidence that is what or where the coral came from...

I understand your rant. This is not what I am doing here... I'm simply trying to get the "silly" name for it so its easier to describe. As you can tell from the above comments I have not settled on the name suggested. I'm still looking for the name (if there is one)... It's just a simple means of describing a coral.

I make sure it is what it is before settling on a name. If it looks different then I wont settle on what it almost looks like. I purchase corals for their beauty not their rarity or name. Again it's just an easy way for me to describe what it looks like.

It almost seems like you are in here to harass people who are utilizing this thread for what it is for... You must be a lawyer! Hardly anyone in this hobby has a COA or proof on what their corals are named. If you think this thread is used for something different or I am misinterpreting the meaning of "zoanthid Identification" please enlighten me. Otherwise chill out! Geez man!

Oh and you are right my bad the common name is zoanthid. Thanks!
