Howdy!
Looking for ID on the colony of polyps in the pic. Day/Night always polyped out, soft mat...was labeled as "Blue Xenia" which I don't think is correct.
I don't think they are cloves...the colony does not have some of the typical clove traits and even if they are "cloves", I'd like to determine the specific type anyhow.
Very small polyps, dense, octo-polyp lacking a "fringe" or "feather" look. The colony almost looks plastic!!
Pretty! Looks like a neat color morph of clavularia. There's a picture in Borneman's Aquarium Corals book (pg 117) that resembles the polyps you have there.
I referenced the clavularia in Borneman's book too...similar but not convinced. The section at the end of his book discussing new discoveries has some leads.
Also, found a few pics of Sansiba that is also similar looking to what I have, just not sure...
I had some like that. They were maroon and green very pretty. They died off after a while, but were very neat and grew well for a while. I have no idea why they died off.
It is not Galaxea or Goniopora- count the tentacles on each polyp. It's an octocoral- not a hexacoral- which means it has to be a softie.
As far as what softie... I dunno. I would have guessed Sympodium too, if not for the lack of pinnules. Pretty coral regardless.
