mystery wrasse and crabs

Im in the process of trying to remove my large melanurus wrasse from my aquarium. After purchasing a large order of scarlet hermit crabs I was extremely upset when he started devouring them like snacks. I should have known better. Either way he needs to come out because he ate all my mini brittle starfish and other things that I want to keep in my aquarium.

In the chance I'm able to get him out, I would like to replace him with another wrasse because I like how active they are. Would a mystery wrasse eat hermit crabs and microstars like the melanurus did? If so I will have to go a different route yet again. I really like sixline wrasses, but Im building up my pod population for a spotted mandarin and would like to avoid competeing pod eaters.

Thanks for any advice

Mystery wrasses are equally efficient at catching pods as a sixline, so there is no difference there. I'm removing my mandarin this week because my wrasses have reduced the pod population too much. I can't really speak for their behavior around hermits, because my mystery is still just a little guy.

I had a very large mystery wrasse. Over 6 inches. I don't allow crabs in my tank, so I can't speak for crabs, but he kept pods to virtually none existant in a well established 180... And shrimp... He ate more shrimp than I ever have.

thats what I feared. How about a purple tilefish? would it eat crabs? I want an active long bodied fish.

I have a 5" mystery wrasse that I keep well fed with frozen, pellet, and small pieces of shrimp which he loves the most. He will eat any shrimp in the tank, minus my tiger pistol. He has not touched my crabs or snails. Have no idea how how much he grazes on the pods but I still have a bazillion of them crawling everywhere.
