I have a rimless tank and want to put in a mystery wrasse, is this a good idea or is it going to end up on the floor?

Thanks
Ryan

Its not going to matter what kind of tank you got. There is always a chance any fish will jump out if there is not top to prevent this from happening.

Don't do it without a cover. I cant tell you how many posts I have seen that go something like this: " I had a really nice wrasse like that until it went carpet surfing".

i have one in a rimless, going on a month and a half now. he swims around but i rarely see him at the top. I see him swimming around the rockwork more than anything else.

I have had my Mystery Wrasse in my new rimless for about 4 months, and my old rimless for about a year. Never even travels to the top 1/4 of the tank.
This is not to say if you buy one, it won't jump. But just wanted to let you know it is possible.

But really, it doesn't cost much to make a cover for extra insurance.

tank mates will be
flame angel
regal angel
banana wrasse
spotted mandarin
5xrandalli anthias.

putting a lid on defeats the purpose of paying extra to have a starfire rimless so that is out of the question...
my ATI PM covers the whoe tank surface so when lowered to 5-10cm above glass height might be less risky?

I think the mystey will be fine will your current livestock.

I think having your PM be that close to your rimless tank, will kill the "rimless" look. You could use clear netting so you can barely see it, and when you really want to show the tank off, just take it off.

Either way, good Luck. It is a beatiful fish (one of my favorites), and is a great addition to the tank.:fish2:

I have one in a rimless, but i made a glass top for it. You can't really see the glass top (i got a bunch of people over, and they didn't noticed it until i point it out).

Mine also stays near the bottom around the rock work. However, I find that these fish spook easily, and that could cause them to jump or dart around the tank. A cover would definitely be recommended. I have a clear mesh on my tank to keep jumpers in the tank.

if mine is spooked he will always hide and keep pokeing his head out from under the rocks, as i said he has never tried jumping and i have had in for 2 years in a small 220ltr tank (planning upgrade to a 500ltr this winter) he lives with a potters & multibar angel, copperband, a pair of b&w clowns, valentini puffer and a manderin.
