Name Reasons for Tip Burn - Birdsnests only

Just noticed some tip burn (not growth) on almost all by birdsnest corals...what are the main reasons for this....and is there a reason why my acros aren't experiencing the same?

Alk swings are usually the culprit, some birdsnests are more sensitive than others.

Too high alk for too low nutrient (carbon dosing) cause burnt tip also...

Too high Alk and too high nutrients are surely the majority of issues, low flow is also another....

Its pretty much been said already; alk maybe too high. I have heard that people use their birdsnests as visual check for their alk. with out having to test.

Definitely a alk shift, just happened to me with a plugged dosing hose.

okay, so I think you guys are spot on, my alk jumped from 7.5 to 8.4 in about a day (high alk water change)....so what is the consensus on recovery? Cut the dead tips off, or don't mess with it? Which will result in regrowth faster?

leave them unless algae starts to grow, if it does it's best to cut them off.

Why does it matter if algae grows ??? Just curious

I have a few pieces that have dead spots were coralline algae grew ? Coral seems to be fine
