If you knew where it was collected that would help. Like Marina said, def. clarkii complex. I would lean towards A. akindynos

I am close to 100% on it being an A. Akindynos clown. To me no other clowns have quite that chocolate/redish looking color.

man i read this title and i got so excited until i saw the scientific name part... i wanted to name him bobo... but on a serious note it will be much easier to tell when it matures alittle more

I think that it is a juvenile akindynos (as certain as you can be making an ID from a grainy photo - much better to have the fish in hand).

I had never seen a juvenile akindynos until earlier this year - all the adults I have had over the years had bright white tails. This young fish arrived with that same dusky patch on its caudal fin that the one in the picture shows, and now 6 months later, its tail has turned bright white. I think that the light colored mask on the face is also diagnostic.

It takes a while for the tail to turn white. I've raised these guys up a few times and I have a pair of my babies all grown up here that are about to spawn. The male still has a little brown on his tail. I can't remember when I raised up my first group of Akindynos. Marina it was the same time you had baby Chrysopterus. Anyway that male still has some brown on his tail and he is a few years old.

Thanks Everyone

I cropped the original photo because I had my doubts of what this fish was sold as. This is a friends fish and he wanted my opinion against what a LFS recently brought in from Australia. I told him I highly doubt it is ________ so I wanted to post a picture and get everyones opinion. Below is the original picture as well as a couple more.

Does this change anyones opinion?

Again thanks for the input.

BoBo - nice. I am so glade someone didn't say the clown fish "N" word. You all know the word. We hear it every time a kid goes into the SW section. :fun2:
