Nano 9002 skimmer pump knocking & stopping

Roger,

Maybe you can assist me, I have an older Nano 9002 skimmer and the pump continually stops running. I've cleaned it, taken it apart and cleaned it again. Several times all in all. When you plug it in you can see the impeller spin for 10-15 sec's and then it stops. Tap it on the side with your hand and it starts up again and repeats. You can see that the impeller spins and is shifting back and forth, not staying put in the center.

Any thoughts?

Also, the shaft, impeller magnet and the interior of the pump housing has rust built up on it. Do you have any knowledge of others having this issue?

Try pushing the metal shaft in further, it has likely worked loose. It may also be the impeller is wearing out, check that the grey plastic piece is present on the bottom of the impeller magnet.

I've pushed the rod in as deep as it will go, tapped lightly with the edge of the counter top. The grey piece is present and fitting nicely along the rear of the magnet. Can the rubber bushing in the pump itself be worn out? Allowing the impeller to not center itself and allowing the cavitating? Do you think it wise to purchase the impeller or the entire pump? Also, if I replace the impeller does it include all the pieces that we've discussed?

Thanks!

Is this a newer 1073.008 pump? The 0800.040 has no rubber ends on the shaft and the shaft is part of the pump, it is not included with the impeller. The 1073.008 impeller includes a shaft and two rubber end bushings.

Its definately an older one, as I've had it for at least 4+years. My shaft comes out and when I look into the pump body I thought I saw a rubber bushing in there, my mistake then. Should the shaft come loose from the body of the pump? If not, that may be my issue. Its always come loose when cleaning the pump, as does the one on the Nano filter. Would it be worth trying a new impeller or should I purchase the entire pump at this time?

It is possible to pull the shaft out but it should be tight so some force is required. If it is loose and can wobble the pump is best replaced. You would need the 0800.040, Premium Aquatics has them and you can also order them on Tunze.com.
