Thermal electric is a lot quieter than the compressor based but for really small tanks 10 gallons and below...

For a 40 gallon tank you will need a compressor based chiller to keep up with the heat; I would recommend any JBJ chiller they are really quiet...

Well, i'll be sure to keep an eye out for the new JBJ before I commit to anything (hopefully it comes out on time, not like the Viper lamps;).) But, the Teclima Micro even says it will bring 32g of water, in an ambient 90 degree room, down to 80 degrees. That's pretty good! So, are you saying this is a lie, then? Obviously 32g >> 10g of water.

Quote from their
site says that The Teclima Micro is "The Smallest, Quietest Chiller on the Market

[BOLD]The Teclima Micro Chiller is designed to cool and heat aquariums up to 32 gallons in size up to 10Ã"šÃ‚° .[/BOLD]"

I figure i'll probably have 40 or so gallons total, maybe less due to rock, etc. I want quiet, efficient, compact... this one does sound like a nice unit.

I just purchased the Pacific Coast CL-85 about a week ago and so far it's been pretty good. Before with an ambient temperature of around 77, my tank would get up to 85 within 4 hours of having the lights on. The tank is a 12g nanocube with a 150w Coralife clip on lamp. The temperature is now stable around 80 with +/- 1 degree every now and then. My only complaint is when it's running full blast. When the temperature gets to be 2 degree from the set temperature, the fan used to circulate air for the peltier block is quite loud, especially for my bedroom. I now use a heater in the sump because at night when its gets cooler, the fan sometimes turns on to heat up the tank which wakes me up.

By the way, I got mine for $157 brand new from Aquatictech. Very reasonable shipping rates and I got it in 3 days.
