Nano Cubes

Hi,
Wondering if anyone in this group keeping Seahorses is doing so in a Nano Cube. I just bought a 14g Oceanic cube, to do a Nano and was wondering if it would be large enough for a couple of Seahorses. I've had at least one reef tank going on 3 years. Currently have 2...a 125 and a 55, err make that 3 with the addition of the cube. From what I've been reading a 14g might be a little small, but I thought I would see if anyone else is making the effort with a tank of this size. Any thoughts?

Thanks
ds

I think we should post pinned thread answering this question, as it has been answered countless times.

As for your question, a 14 gallon tank is really not a good size for seahorses. Its too large for dwarfs, and not big enough for most of the larger seahorses.

You could possibly squeeze in a pair of H. Capensis, but you would need to buy a chiller because they dont tolerate temperatures above 70 degrees. But even that is a small tank for Capensis.

I would recomend a tank no smaller than 25-30 gallons for a pair of tropical seahorses.

Sorry to be a repeat but I can never get the search function to work on this site no matter what forum I'm in or what kind of connection. Thanks for the info tho...thought it might be too small, but there is always someone doing what "can't be done" in this hobby.

It "can be" done, but the question is should it? You could live in a 8x8 room your entire life. Would you be happy or healthy? WE are free to choose where we live, they are not. It is our job to do the best we can for them. Nano Cubes also tend to run at higher temps. then seahorses should be at. 72 F is the general guideline for most seahorses. Some require lower temps then that. Higher temps. can and usually do lead to bacterial and other infections.

Seahorses are also messy, the more water the easier it is to keep stable water parameters for them. A 30g XHigh tank is perfect for them. The taller the better.

hey nano cubes make great seahorse tank the size you have isnt too bad you could easly keep a pair or two of erectus or redi tank size for seahorses has always be debated as well as other means of keeping them but they do better in smaller settings as it is easer to maintain food for them and the nano setup is great for doing this as long as you keep there tank water at 75 they will do fine just remember that every seahorse that you have gets 1-5 pices of myse shrimp per horse and your set

redi45,
I am an experienced seahorse keeper/breeder and I strongly disagree with the bad advice you have posted and I am certain others will also.

I suggest you do some serious research before posting things that are very detrimental to these beautiful creatures.

Do not listen to anyone who says a nano cube is a good home for a seahorse. I've been keeping and breeding seahorses for awhile. Please research. The health and welfare of the seahorses depends on you. I can't imagine anyone thinking a pair of two of Erectus could live in a 14g nano. That's just crazy.

hey nano cubes make great seahorse tank
This coming from someone that has a 90g seahorse tank. ???

Think of it more like living in your bathroom... except the toilet only flushes once a week... would you, could you???
