Nano DOC 9002 - Venturi Problems

Hi Roger,

I was lucky to convince Graham in Australia (Tunze Rep) to let me buy the first (in fact his proto type of the Nano pack 200).

Got the unit home, and the surface filter works fine, however i'm having problems with the skimmer. The venturie does not suck air at all (in fact water raises in the air tube). So all the skimmer is doing is ciculating the water inside the unit but no air is entering the skimmer at all (even with the screw fully out).

I have looked at all the conections, pulled the venturi out and put it back together but with no luck. I have double checked everything and i can't under stand why water would be rising in the tube. maybe something inside the venturi connection is not right? Inside the unit i have a white plastic insert with a small hole where water passes through and also another hole on the side of this white insert where the air elbow fits into.

I have checked the post where you posted pics of the venturi and mine looks exactly the same, some internal pics would be good if you have them.

Maybe the pump is under sized? My prop has 3 blades, is this correct?

Unit did not come with any instructions, could you be so kind to e-mail these to me, many thanks.

The pump is not the issue. Is the airline kinked? I would ask Graeme as I would be sure it worked before if he was willing to sell it. My experience is the airline can get kinked at stop the airflow. Also, if the elbow is in too far or not far enough water can be pumped out instead of air being sucked in, the prototype ones weren't so well assembled, the venturi is identical to the 3110/2 venturi and I would bet Graeme has spares. I do not have a PDF of this manual yet.

The airline is definetly not kinked, i have tried different positions with the elbow but with no luck. Not sure if graham had used the unit as it look brand new, however i will chase him for a spare venturi and give that a go.

Hi Roger,

Graham does not have spares for this skimmer. So i'm now stuck with a skimmer that does not work. I going to have to get an air pump so i can pump air into the venturi to make this work (at least this way i do get bubbles in the chamber).

Do you by any chance have any spare venturi's for the 3110/2? I'm sure something is not right with the internal of the venturi (do you have any pics) so i can see whats missing / wrong.

Roger,

Just to let you know that the venturi works when i take the top half off (IE the white plastic insert sits in the bottom half of the fitting). When i put the top half on it stops drawing air? Is there only the white insert inside the venturi?

Are the venturi or internal of the venturis on your other skimmers the same size? If so i should be able to get spares from Graham locally.

Probably best to bring the skimmer in as we discussed this one has been well travelled being the first sample we received and on display at the Sydney Pet expo last Oct it may not be complete or possibly damaged. It has not been used I guess I should have not let you talk me into it
I will see you Thursday.
We are hoping to receive the first 9002 skimmers in the next couple of weeks.

BTW that 250 w MH is a no go have a chat with Liam.
