yeah, I tried for a long (long, long, long) time to find misbarred gold band marroons, but to no avail

I got really lucky when my LfS got one in. The never get any misbarred clowns. The timming was awsome, right when I was ready to add my first fish to the tank!

and possibly one of the many tiny gobies

OK If you are going to get a goby I suggest a small burowing goby like a high fin red banded goby or a perching one like a clown goby. You could always do a scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp. They are active, funny, and have just as much personality as fish. They do not move around alot either. Mine have set up a cleaning station and don't move from it until feeding time. But they hop and swim all around their little station. IMO I would use a scarlet skunk cleaner as my centerpice critter, instead of a fish.

Yup, I think that would be your best bet. Get a few snails and reef hermits and your good to go. Some people don't like hermits because they have killed their snails, but I have never had that happen to me.

the hood that it looks like lemmz is using is the cheapie 2 bulb incandescent hood you can get at petsmart for 15 bux.....same one i got on my wifes freshwater puffer tank...lol
