Nano Tank Idea

What do you think of this setup?, do you think I could culture enough pods for a mandarin to thrive? any opinions of the design?

Maybe that would work in a 40 breeder but not in a 5 gallon tank.

I have a back overflow on a 5.5 and there isn't much room left in the tank. certainly not enough for a mandarin that's cruising the tank all the time searching for food.

Ok well maby just a lil goby or something hows the design I wanted both sides to be visible, is 2.5 gallons enough for a mantis??

You need about 5 gallons for even the smallest species of mantis. The same idea with a ten gallon would allow you to keep a mantis on one side and one of the smaller species of gobies on the other side.

Well I kind of am counting out the mandarin, what do you think would be a good side by side tank that could be intergrated together that are totally different??? Seahorse could not work because of the temp I would like to keep the tank at, vs. coral tank temp...

Just note that with a mantis you might not get many pods.

My mantis sump is over run with pods, but my mantis is heavily fed too.

When I was able to capture the mantis from my main tank I put him on the refugium hoping to find someone who may want him, over time I got lazy and feed very little, in a month or so most of my pods (and snails) were gone. I had to take him to the Q tank and re-seed the refugium to recover from the incident. Now he is a happy camper on a friend's dedicated tank, beautiful green smasher.

Hey Jose -

What're you doing on the nano forum? Your new big tank too much to handle? :D

I was the lucky recipient of the mantis he is referring to. Was gonna post a pic, but I guess I don't have one loaded on photobucket.

 At cleaning time I wish I had a nano :D

.... badly.

why don't you look at liveaquaria. they give you an idea of the minimum tank you should probably use. plus researching the fish can help just a little bit too
