Nano tank skimmer recommendations?

I don't have a sump or anything so it would be in the display. I purchased the aquatic life mini protein skimmer and it just broke... after less than 10 days. Is this what to expect from a $50 skimmer? Are there any other alternatives I should consider for my 20 gallon nano?

I know skimmers aren't a necessity but I'd like to run one in addition to my water changes instead of solely relying on the water changes.

The pump for either the needle or the water pump. When I plugged it back in the skimmer made a weird sound and was not making any bubbles. I couldn't tell if it was moving any water or not.

I would pull the pump out and make sure the housing is attached to the pump inlet. It sounds like the impeller is spinning but not held down.

Hopefully that made sense, I'm pretty tired lol

That's what I did hoping I could fix it - but it didn't work unfortunately

1st. I'd go to where you bought the skimmer and see if they can help you. Might just be an easy return and replace. If that doesn't work, I've had pretty good luck with the Aqua C remora in the past, but on a 20 gallon, it might just be worth it to do additional water changes and skip the skimmer. Mixed reef I'm assuming?
