Nano Tanks of GIRS

I've seen some pretty cool stuff from him with the exception of a shoddy 380 tank that belongs to you!

The adjustable overflow actually came from a buddy of mine that told me Scott builds them if you want it that way. Luckily I was able to incorporate it into the tank before it was done. Otherwise I would've bought one of these from nanotuners.

Thanks for the suggestion on the osmolator. I still have an extra remote pump module for my LMIII that I might use.

Multiple tangs per your suggestion Matt! :D J/K!

I won't be adding anymore fish since I already have the two black perculas and a goby.

For corals, it'll be all LPS and softies.

My nano came in on Tuesday and got it set up on Wednesday. I would highly recommend Scott to anyone needing something custom built. From my 16 gallon nano to Tinytool's 380 gallon, he can do it all. Very patient and can build you just about anything you can dream up.

Here's a few basic specs:
Tank: 3/4" cast acrylic - 15"X20"X16" with 3" overflow area
Return pump: Maxijet 1200 - 296GPH
In tank flow: Tunze nanostream - 1189GPH
Skimmer: Tunze 9002 nano skimmer - 10 to 52 gallons
Heater: Visi-Therm Stealth heater - 75W
Lights: Sfliligoi SingleSole HQI Pendant - 150W Coralife 20K

After I got the tank, I had to cut the reef ceramic wall down to size, cut out notches for the overflow and return output.

I really wanted this tank to be different from a traditional nano. I decided to not put any live rock in the display and the bottom will be open.

To fill the void areas on the bottom, I decided to use small grain sized-sand.

Now the fun begins! Here's a series of pics showing the water clearing up after a few hours.

I'll probably make the transition this weekend and get the livestock moved over. Ball is buying my biocube so we should have another GIRS nano! :D

Slovan -- I want to see picture of tank now. How's it looking.

I have new additions since last post. Biggest being switching from crushed coral substrate to sand. Anticipating getting rid of black clown and getting son goby/pistol shrimp combo. When he originally asked for the tank I promised he could have 1-2 fish and a shrimp. Since the clown won't tolerate a shrimp son has been complaining in earnest. Of course, I also promised that if we could keep a small tank going for a year we would upgrade next year. Shhh. Don't tell my husband that.

Full tank shot day after substrate change:
