I just setup my 24DX and have a question. Does the water touch the plastic shield that's on the light? It seems the water level is so high that the shield is slightly submerged in the water.

I upgraded the return pump to a MaxiJet 1200 when I first got it. This morning I drilled through the bulkhead in chamber 2 and added another water outlet and hooked up the stock pump to it as well. When I did this the water level in the display area went even higher but the light was touching the water before I did this.

The only thing in chamber 1 is some floss and charcoal. Do I need to restrict the flow a bit to drop the water level or is this OK?

I tried it with and without the skimmer installed with the same results. I’m just getting too much flow into the display area. I'm going to get a ball valve to restrict the flow a little. That should drop the level and still move the water where there are some dead/slow spots.

nah it doesnt touch.i have the 12dx and have the skimmer on.take out some water if it does.you will notice water on the plastic for the lighting if it was touching the water

I fixed my flow problem! I kept the MaxiJet 1200 as the return pump in chamber 3 and put another MaxiJet 1200 in chamber 2 as a closed loop feeding from the display area.

So I get the best of both worlds, proper water level and the benefit of two MaxiJet 1200's without the MaxiJet in the display area. I'll post a new thread with pics and instructions on how I did it with a parts list. It's extremely easy and looks very clean.
