Nanocube heat cure

I posted this on another forum in response to someones question. I hope this will help solve the problems that others have with temp issues in the JBJ 12 gallon Nanocube(would think it will work with the aquapod too).

==============================================

I am curious what the temp problem is with the nanocubes.
Maybe I started out the right way with a nanocustoms.com tank or I am just lucky.
My tank NEVER and I mean never, gets above 80.5 degrees. No chiller or additional external fans. I run all 4 of my lights almost 12 hours per day with sunrise/sunset simulation. Room temp is 75 degrees.

This is how mine is configured:
2 Pumps – 1 Maxi jet 900 and 1 Mini jet 606, both on hydroflo’s
Fans - Replaced stock fans with Evercool 60x60x10mm (2)
Nano Customs 4.24 light mod (4-24 watt PC lamps)
R2 Moonlight
Surface Skimmer

I am far from an expert, but this is what I have learned (90% from this forum, thanks everyone) and what I do.

The trick (for me) is:
1) BOTH fans blow inward, forcing air out the forward side vents.
2) Use the Nanocustoms heatshield or pound the stock one completely flat. (No lips)
3) Use mini jets or maxi jet pumps. (I use 2 with no heat problems)

My temps are at maximum just as my lights go off (80.5 degrees), which is @ 5 to 6 degrees above ambient room temp. My heater is adjusted to maintain a minimum temp of 78.5 degrees. I have run it with out the heater and the tank temp drops to around 1 maybe 2 degrees above ambient room temp at night when the lights are off.

So… the way mine is set up - the pumps add 1 or 2 degrees to the temp and the lights (all 4) add 3 to 4 degrees to tank temps.

IMHO without doing all 3 of the things mentioned you may have some temp problems, it cost very little to do and may solve all the temp problems (assuming your room isn’t too hot) Hope this helps some of the temperature challenged, it has worked for me……your mileage may vary.

p.s. I keep the hood closed all the time and add maybe 1.5 cups of topoff per week, no ATO needed at all. I have checked my tanks thermometer against a laboratory grade thermometer, so I know my numbers are accurate.
