Two Tunze 6045s? and a Mag5? Hey, wont get upset... its your pain and suffering.

An eheim 1250 will give you enough (its what Im using on the new 125g as a return) and its about the same size, if not smaller than a mag5. Its also alot quieter (dead silent). Oh, and if you want just a little more flow... Oceanrunner 2500.

Just not a Mag... not the mag... you're gonna make me cry...:sad2:

For a 75g, I wouldnt get nano-streams at all. A 75g can use regular tunzes... like a couple 6000s, if not 6100s. I use a 6100 in a 40g (granted with a 6200 shroud to spread out the flow more).

i have about the same flow rate as nanogurl is planning on getting, instead of the second 6045 i got 2 6025 and an eheim 1260 for the return, with my 90g and already i'm having trouble with the sand shifting too much. is there a way to orient the the pumps so that this is reduced? i try to put them pretty high up in the tank too.

Oh, wait, you dont care about the wave-controller I take it... in that case go ahead with the 6045s... I just know I wouldnt consider them enough for a 75g... It sounds like alot.... 1000+gph and all, but its so spread out and from such a wide outlet... a 400-500gph powerhead would make a similar amount of water movement. Maybe 3 of them... I suppose, they are about the best option... SEIOs, MJ mods, Korallias... all about the same. The SEIOs might be an option, but they arent as easy to hide.

Okay, what the heck, try 2, you can always add more later on.

But for the return pump... just not the Mag... I hate those things. I have an eheim that has run for over 15 years straight. I dont have a simgle Mag that has lasted more than 5, and usually it takes a new impeller or two along the way to make it that far... they have a loud, hot, crappy life. I use two mags actually... one is a Mag3 for a kalk reactor mix pump, and the other is a Mag2 for an auto-top-off. That way they only run a few minutes every day... more than that, and Id have to chuck them.

75 Reef Tank Up & Running!

Okay, as promised here are some photos taken tonight of the new setup. I have to say that we are very happy with how the tank has turned out. We wanted something different then just your plain rock wall with corals.

This aquascape kind of combined a rockwall with space and pillars all into one. With this tank only being a 75 and 18" wide with an overflow stuck in there as well, our options were pretty limited unless we wanted a large rock wall.

Tank Specs As of Tonight:

75 AGA MegaFlow
AGA Modern Series Stand & Canopy
2 x 150 14k Phoenix MHs
29g Sump w/fuge & return
125 pounds figi LR
40 pounds aragonite sand
2 MJ1200 Power Heads (tunzes on the way!)
Jager Heater

Fist / Invert List:

Mated Pair Ora Black clowns (Eight Ball & Orca)
Zebra Eel (Oreo)
Purple Lobster (in sump/fuge)
Misc snails & hermits

Sun Coral
2 Orange & Purple Ricordeas
2 Florida Blue & Teal Ricordeas
Orange Plate
Metalic Green Open Brain
Red & Blue Mushrooms
Blue & Green Mushrooms
Watermellon Zoas
Sour Apple Zoas
Cherry Zoas

It's tiny toon adventures, come and join the fun!

And now our song (tank) is done!

Thanks Drummereef :) :) I'm really glad you like how it looks so far!

Nanogurl I like the color on your corals. It's either that or you take some good freakin shots:D . Do you have any air going in the canopy? Any future plans for an opening? Fans maybe? Haha Mr. hahnmeister up there seems a little upset on the mag pick. Yet I agree with him, Eheims are sweet pumps.

joeyjoeq: Thanks. The back of the canopy is open, but it's already getting pretty hot even with the canopy top up, so I'm going to have to install some fans for sure. Yet another project to figure out!

slapshot16: Thanks!

I think it looks great, but it just isn't the same without some of your patented action shots. ;)

The Mag pump will be fine. I've been a fan of them for some time, and used to buy up every one that came available on the DFWMAS selling forum. If you prefer eheim, just get the same GPH if possible.

Haha thanks!

I can't post those action shots :P But here are a couple from later in the evening. Look! See I do own more then one pair of jeans! Baggy style none the less.

Yea, this is going to be hard to see over!

Waiting for it to clear.

Well, it's not that I don't want the controller... it would be cool I think. But it's really expensive for me right now after all we've spent towards the tank already.. and the major reason for this tank is for my eel and a few fish, and low maint corals like mushrooms and zoas and stuff. We'll probably add some SPS but it will only be a few frags for fun... so I just think all of that is overkill for me right now.

Especially if we are getting the 120 after we move. At that point, we'll probably get the high end stuff and controllers and move the higher end corals over to the 120, the PBT, some other fish and stuff and leave the 75 for my eel and low end corals. Trying to take it slow for now and see what makes the most sense.

The flow in the tank right now with the two 1200's is actually doing just fine for what I have in the tank. The mushrooms and zoas don't like super high flow like SPS.. so the tunze may even be too much for them I really don't know. Still debating on that.

That's one thing I hate about this hobby. Mistakes are very expensive!

Very sweet tank. Great job, now on to the 180 I see;)

lol thanks :) yea i bore easily *yawn* jk

The tank looks excellent, I love all the bright red. The brain in the center brings your sight to a focal point when not looking at the rock work as well. Really nice work.

Nice action shots, NanoGurl. You're going to need a step stool. :D

Woohoo, page 16!!!

lol thanks :)

I know, I hate that about this canopy.. but I like the way it looks so I'll deal with it.

My goal is to make the split! Then this thread may R.I.P. !!

Thank you very much :)

I like the red too. Once the water is moe clear I'll take some updated photos of the corals. Last night it was a bit too cloudy although pretty much clear. I'm hoping tonight it will be totally clear for some photos.
