I like the fixtures from Lights of America that are 65 watts. Same principal as the 19 watt ones but with more punch. I use those to grow phyto now but in the past I actually had 6 of them sitting on eggrate over a 70 gallon tank (36X18X24") and it actually grew a couple acro's and some monti. Not real good mind you but they grew. They're 6500K and cheato will grow very well.

2nd the cheato. You don't need to light it 24/7 like the caulerpa.

The LOA fixtures are at the home depot's. The replacement bulbs are in the regular bulb area. They have 65 watt and I think a 100 watt one but I never saw a 100 watt fixture or I may have tried that since it's a 6500K bulb too. The fixtures are with all the other type outdoor fixtures. Most take off the clear covers due to heat buildup and others drill a bunch of holes in them. This is because some people had them quit working if they didn't. The ones that removed the covers and/or drilled holes never had a problem as far as I know. All 6 of mine still work and some of them have had 18 hour days for almost 3 years. Both the bulbs and the fixtures also have something on the package like FLOUREX technology. If I remember correct, the Flourex was printed larger than the Lights of America brand name. Here's a pic of one of the fixtures I mounted over a phyto station that's no longer being used. The clear cover is off.

Well I just changed some of the RO/DI filters that I had. The carbon filter was black lol... the replacement one was white.. so I'm guessing that's not a good sign. I also changed the resin stuff. I'm going to let it run for an hour or so then test it with my new TDS meter. I'm waiting to hear back from the guy the system came too as to which replacement filters to order, then I will change everything again. I'm hoping this helps.

Also, has anyone ever had any problems with the nitrates in their storage bins for made up saltwater? I tested for nitrates and they are very high in the trashcan (brute), but low coming out of the RO/DI unit. Was odd.

I don't think it was mold.. i think it was just used up. Idk I'll take a pic of it. Mold would be totally gross.

You need to clean out the reservoir with 10:1 bleach water, rinse it well and let it air out well overnight. Rinse it again and it is ready to use.

TDS Update!

Okay, I was also playing around with my TDS meter. I tested my tap water and it read 115ppm. I then tested water from a bucket that I was using for my topoffs before I changed the filters tonight and it read 15ppm.

After I changed the carbon filter and resin I let it run about 10 minutes to clear the black stuff out. Once it ran clear, I tested and it read 5.9ppm. After another 5 minutes it tested 3.8ppm. I just tested it now and it read 2.8ppm. I guess it's flushing out the system as it runs? Does this sound right?

By reservoir you mean the Brute Trash Can that I am storing the made up saltwater?

Yes, you need to clean these from time to time. When mine are empty, I set them upside down outside where they stay dry until needed next time. I currently have a 55g barrel in my kitchen making new saltwater. I love it when that is out of the way again.

Thanks Marc! I noticed in the bottom of it it has hard crusty brown things sort of. I'm guessing that's not good?

I suppose the RO/DI is flushing although I only have to run about 5 gallons when I replace my membranes. I wish AZDesertRat was around, he's the man when it comes to RO/DI issues. Hopefully you'll start seeing some goose eggs soon in regards to the tds. :) I'm excited for you about the Nanostreams and return pump! I bet it's going to make a huge difference. :)

I'm ordering my nanostreams and sump pump tonight :)

Nice!:D So any new ideas with the tank? Say that TDS Meter looks just like mine:p (yes I know I copied you lol). Did you ever pick out the light for the fuge? You can always go economy and use something like this:

Or like this:

Both ways work. I'm using the second method right now and the cheato grows just fine.

Thanks :) I haven't forgotten about your pic of the brain.. it's not doing well atm. I am hoping it pulls through.

I tested this morning and it's reading at 1.8
