35lbs is not bad. Looks like 50-60 to me then again you did say it is bigger than most. God I love that camera! lol Picking mine up Friday:D

Yay! You'll probably hate it and blame me for it all!

Here is a cool photo I took of my fire shrimp the other night eating a piece of shrimp. I have a purple lobster as well in my sump/fuge. I target feed them both. The shrimp is cool he dances all over then "parachutes" off the top rock to the bottom to catch food if I don't feed him some on tongs. It's really funny.

I like to hand feed my cleaners, i also have the fire shrimp i don't really like to hand feed them as they hare larger pincher things and I'm not sure if they hurt lol.

lol.. mine has walked on my hand.. mine has never bit. I use tongs bc I try to keep my hands out of the water as much as i can.

PBT Update!

Not good news tonight. The blac ich is back again. There are only a few spots there this time, but it's def there. His eating is still strong and his behavior appears to be good still, but we are going to go ahead and FW dip him again tonight. His rings are even better looking today however.

Update later after the dip.

The thing about regular Ich is that it takes a long time to erradicate them from the system. I have to imagine Black Ich is the same. The tank usually needs to remain fallow (fish-less) for 6 weeks to break the cycle.

Perhaps the dips and your constant attention will help the PBT build an immunity to this pest, but then again other fish in the tank may not be so lucky. At some point you may have to decide to bite the bullet so that any future additions don't have to deal with the risk of infection.

Thanks for the advice. I agree, I think it could be a problem. I have been watching the other fish to see what happens with them, as nobody else so far has shown signs. I am also worried that I will have to remove everyone for at least six weeks. My biggest concern with doing that is the fact that I have a zebra eel and a PBT, neither which will do well in small QT tanks for long periods of time.

I was hoping that a few dips would eradicate the black ich. From what I read, they attach then drop off. I was hoping now that the scopas was gone, they would attach to the PBT and with fresh water dips eradicate the system. That may be unrealistic, I do not know.

I figure at tihs point I will try two more dips. If that doesn't work or I see any other fish develop it I will have no choice. I don't plan to have any other fish in this system other then maybe a mate for my firefish, as I am hoping to give my PBT the majority of the tank until we upgrade.

The PBT looked fine after his FW dip and is swimming fine, but he looked fine before the dip too. I am hoping by catching it earlier this time it will help. I'll update tomorrow after the lights go on and I'll see how it did.

Thanks :)

some creative images of yourself on your "myspace page" nice work...

Thanks :) I'm glad you liked them! More will follow.

I had a ich outbreak as well and went through something similar to you. Ich goes away after dips then comes right back... I think the actual parasites might have been behind the gills of some of my other fish and then it spread back on to my tangs. hopefully it goes away with in the next couple dips, if not how big of a QT will you set up? If you post on WAMAS im sure you can find a 55 for cheap- ... actually now that i think about it theres a guy on CMAS(www.cmas-md.org) selling a 55 with 'open stand'(i guess that means with out cabinets) for 30 bucks.

Just to clear everyone up on - black ich and ich are not the same thing. They are not related at all. Black ich is tubalarian worms. I am currently having the same problem as nanogurl and have read much about it. Any treatments you may have used for ich don't apply here, b/c they are two different diseases. Also black ich is not caused by stress, it is caused by another fish, usually tangs carrying it and passing it to another tang. Also I have read dwarf angels and angels from Hawaii can carry it. Thats how it got in my tank. :(

Thanks for adding your thoughts Robin. I have not had to deal with this problem and have not done the research. If you still have the links to the articles you've read, I'm sure others would benefit by reading up on it on this topic.

A simple freshwater dip of any new fish before entering your QT or main tank can prevent this parasite from being passed along. Once it is establised in your main tank it can be hard to get rid of not unlike regular ich even though they are not the same disease. Also black ich is not very debilitating, but left untreated can eventually claim the life of the fish by allowing other infections to set in. Freshwater dips are recommended every three days, each time erradicating parasites that were not on the fish before. Freshwater dips can kill this parasite unlike regular ich, where its just to releave the fish of some parasites until other treatment can be performed. Usually, if you remove the host tang(s) from the tank for 30 days the disease will die out. I am going to try some Prazipro myself in my tank to try to avoid removing any of my fish to QT. Prazipro is a dewormer that claims to work on Tubelarins (sp), it claims to be reef safe and safe for your biological filter, although it will kill any worms in your tank good, bad, and ornamental. I will let you guys know if it works, I sure hope it does.

Wednesday Update!

Today was a long day. I had to get up at 4am to get ready to leave for the hospital. My cuzin needed to have heart surgery this morning and the hosptial was an hour away... so we were pretty anxious the last few days. The good news is the surgery went fantastic and fixed the problem. Today was a great day! =)

The tank news is pretty good too. The PBT responded well to the dip. He has no more spots again today, but I did see him "scrape" a few times today. I don't know if that was bc of the parasites, or aggression towards my clowns since they are hosting in an area he seems to want to be in.

Everything else is looking great. The corals are all gaining their color back and really doing well. Very relieved I thought most were going to die off from everything.

The only bad news is all of my aquascaping has been moved. Trying to catch the tangs was a really frustrating and annoying experience. All of the nice rock work will need to be redone.

Well, off to make dinner. Taco night :)
