Nanos without heaters

how many of you nano reefers go without a heater? Let me know your expierences with or without one. recently i had a tank heater mess up and cooked my tank so my next project i may not go with one.

I have owned a 12g nanocube for 2 years. I started with a heater, but it just got in the way in such a small tank so I didn't replace it when it cracked after 6 mos. I really haven't had any problems. I keep 2 clowns (who have recently spawned) bunch of hammers, zoos, mushrooms. Just so you know, I am in Chicago, and the thermostat setting is 69 degrees in winter and 80 degrees in summer.

I don't use a heater on my tank. The house is set at 73F-75F year round. The halide runs for 8 hours a day. The tank stays at a constant 79-80F during the day and 78F at night.

supprisingly my 24g ap stays at around 77-79F and the heater is set at 75. The temp never gets down that low so it never kicks on. so i guess you can say so far i have been running without a heater

I have a 12g aquapod and live in FL so we generally have warmer temps. I usually have the lid of the thing propped up a little bit. My temp hangs around 77 give or take 2 degrees.

This will be my first winter with my tank and the ambient temp can get kind of chilly so I have a heater just in case - but it seems to be poorly calibrated and almost shot my tank up to 80 when i was messing with it.

When i want my tank warmer? I just shut the lid. Am I ghetto?

I have an open top nano and the temperature drops down when my halides aren't on. For me, heaters are a must, but even if they weren't, I'd use one just in case. To me, the probability of a heater failing is less than the chance of something happening that would reduce your tank's temperatures, like having one of the powerheads that help heat your tank shut off/fail, or waking to a really cold morning where your house heater didn't kick in.

If you're worried about a heater cracking, get a titanium one. If space is an issue, check out the Hydor Thermopump, a combo powerhead and heater. I currently have one in my nano and it works great.

that thing looks a bit large and i am trying to get rid of excess stuff in the tank. so i think i might just get and hob and stick a heater in there. ALSO I AM LOOKING FOR A SUPER SMALL HEATER CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHERE TO FIND ONE? thanks

My heater went out in a 12 g nano cube and my tank was getting down to 65 at night. It killed my midas blenny and made some of my corals bleach.

What HOB do you use? I used to run a AC500(or 700, I forgot) DIY refugium and the smallest heater that could fit inside was a Visi-Therm, due to the height restrictions.

I have had a 20 gallon reef for 4 years without a heater. Overheating is a bigger issue. I have power compact lights(130W) and powerheads. The temp never drops below 76 degrees in the winter. In the summer,the tank will heat to 84 sometimes.
