Nanostream 6095 rattle and jumper question

Hi Roger (and RC community),

I am now the proud owner of two 6095s. I got my first one about a month ago, and its been running great.

Yesterday, I got my second one and set-it up in the tank. I'm not as happy with this one. This one came with the jumper power supply, not the slider power supply like my first 6095 unfortunately. I'm guessing this is an earlier release version. Normally I'd be fine with this, but I noticed only 1 jumper (the 20volt) was included. Should the other jumpers have been included too, or is this a separate purchase item (which would be disappointing as my first 6095 came with the full slider-type power supply which didn't need separate jumpers)? I need to get up to 24 volts to max the flow.

Second, more concerning issue: the 6095 I just got is rattling. I checked to make sure the parts are all on tight. That's not the issue. I think its the impeller or motor. This is definitely not vibrational noise. Its a distinct rattle. It's not too loud, but definitely noticeable, especially within 5 feet of the side of the tank that its on. My first 6095 was dead quiet without any rattling from the very first day, so I'm concerned with this one rattling right off the bat. Should I be concerned, or is it normal for the Nanostream to rattle for awhile before quieting down? How long should I wait before pulling it out?

Thanks!

The power supply you got is the newest version. The power supply came packaged in a bag, inside this same bag was a very small package containing 5 other jumpers that duplicate the switch settings. This new power supply is required by EU law to eliminate phantom loads, i.e. a device that is off must truly be off and draw no power, the old power supply draws 1-2 watts even when the pump is off. The switch type unit was discontinued in November 2011.

The rattling can only be two things, the pump is in a corner and the surrounding glass on the side obstructs the intake enough to cause some cavitation. Either that or the propeller has some play and a replacement propeller would solve the problem.

Wow, that was a fast response! Thanks Roger!

The unit is not in a corner. Its centered on a 18" by 24" side wall, so I don't think cavitation is an issue. I will look into a replacement propeller.

I will also double check the bag the supply was wrapped in for the jumpers when I get back home. With any luck, I simply overlooked them.

Thanks again!
