hey guys..i hope you can help me out here...i recently bought a Naso tang(5 inches) a week or two ago..everything was fine he was doing great..he wasnt scared when i put him in,right away just swam right out in the open no problems...i went down to my tank(300g reef)to turn on the metal halides just now and i noticed he wasnt out like he normally is..he was laying on the bottom behind a rock..i moved him because i thought he was dead and he got up and swam around then went back behind a rock and is sitting on the bottom again! i did a quick check of the water everything is perfect! i dont know what to do! i turned the lights off thinking he might of been stressed..we have been repairing a broken water line for the last few days so there has been a lot of banging so i think he got stressed out? what do you guys think..the room where we are doing the repairs is 15 or so feet away from the tank in a different room so its close...what do you guys think? i need help fast!

Is it breathing rapidly? Salt grain spots on him? Hazy white patches on it anywhere? Are the gills red or inflamed?

he looks like hes breathing fast..more than normal.

everything else is fine..his color even looks great still...this morning he was swimming around normal too

Did you QT him? Rapid breathing could mean ich or maybe even velvet.
Or possibly oxygen depletion.

What are your water parameters?

he was at my LFS for atleast 2 weeks before i took him home he looked great no spots nothing at all..is he going to die? anything i can do?

He does let the cleaner shrimp clean him a lot i noticed that...the rest of the fish dont really go up to them too much

water is Perfect...nothing even slightly off

Never think that just because a fish was at a LFS for a while that it won't bring something with it or wont be infected with some disease before you buy it. Always QT no matter what. Could be either ich or velvet. Can you take close up detailed pics of it?

yeah i know this but my LFS im pretty good friends with but im still in the process of setting up a small QT tank to do this.

I cant really get pictures of him hes behind a rock and i turned the lights off...should i go back down and turn the lights on and try to snap a few pictures?

do you think he could of been really stressed from all the banging on pipes all day long for the last few days? i mean he was completely fine this morning then all the sudden hes on the bottom.

I'd leave the lights off. Check him in the morning and see if you see any white spots on him or any hazy white patches.

do you think he will be dead by morning? i hope he just snaps out of it as quickly as he got sick.

If it is ick, try feeding several times a day. Add garlic and possibly vita-chem to the food before feeding the fish. My sailfin is in the recovery stage of a very bad ick outbreak. As soon as I started this, she started getting better. I used a mix of algae based flakes and mysis shrimp. The mysis were suggested to help keep her hydrated since her eyes were starting to glaze over. If it is to survive it MUST eat! If you have it, I'd also try adding some cheato to the display for a constant food source. Be aware though that tangs that eat cheato have weird looking poop. If you don't have something like seachem garlic, try crushing a few fresh cloves to get the juice out of them. It will encourage the naso to eat and boost the immune system. Plus, I think the ick hates the taste of a garlic fish since they usually start falling off shortly after the fish eats.

he died a little while ago...im really upset about it...it looked like he had some red under his mouth and kinda had these white rashes on his body so i have no idea what happened..im just upset about it all really sad definitely ruined my whole week :(....im going to the wholesale on monday to pick up a flame angel, clown tang, and possibly another naso tang but to be honest im not even in the mood anymore.

i also just set up my 29g nano for my QT tank..its cycling right now.
