Nassarius snails?

I just added ten of these little guys to my 75g tank about a week ago. As I understand it, they are usually supposed to stay hidden away buried in my sand bed, which is why I bought them. I hear they do a god job keeping the sand stirred up. However, I see them quite often on either the glass or the live rock.

Is this normal behavior for these snails, or is it a sign that something might be wrong?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank You.

They stay below the sand most of the time, sometimes with their siphons sticking out, but come out to forage. They will often come out when you feed the tank.

Mine did the same thing right after I got them. They might be just looking around their new home before settling in. And iamwhatiaam52 is correct. They come out when you feed the tank.

Thank You

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep an eye on them and see if they don't settle in to a normal routine.

By the way SVYNX, I love your avatar. I got a good laugh out of that one.

Care to share a pic of your nassarious snails? I know a couple websites that sell a snail labled as a nassarious snail, however it is far from one. I've even received an order that included a batch of clam eating pest snails from one website. they do look rather similar in some cases.

Not trying to freak you out, as I'm sure yours are indeed nassarious snails.

P.S. Just remembered the name - Whelk. There's a thread this evening "Bad Snail" that has one.
