I have had 2 14" solar tubes over a 190 (24"x 60"x 30") for 4 years and live near Charlotte, NC. I can grow SPS in the summer months, but they will go down hill starting in Sept. in my opinion they are not a good choice for primary lighting at my latitude.
I know that some of the solartube people will tell you different, but this is based on my actual experience.
I have tried HIDs with the solartubes, but finally settled on a custom LED that is powerful enough to light the tank by itself.
