Nautilus

Is it possible to keep a Nautilus in a tank? I'm dying to get one, they're beautiful!

If so, how and what size tank is needed?

They are very difficult to keep. Even large, well-funded aquariums have a hard time keeping them.

They need a chilled tank, low 50's, and a deep or pressurized tank.

There is a detailed article in the June 2007 Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine authored by 2 guys that worked at the NRCC (National Research Center for Cephalopods.) Otherwise there is just not much literature on the care of these cephs. You might check out TONMO if you're seriously interested in pursuing them.

Yeah they make octopuses and cuttles look easy too keep unfotunately, because they are really interesting and nice looking

You look really hard in the right places. Make friends with a LFS or a wholesale/importer.

If your local public aquarium keeps them you might talk to them about volunteering so you can get some first hand experience before you decide you really want to pursue keeping them at home.

How do you even purchase a nautilus?!

I would strongly recommend not purchasing a Nautilus until aquarium technology has been vastly improved and more affordable, and even then I would not recommend it unless the wild populations have been assessed. These are one of those animals that are best left in the wild like nurse sharks, stonefish, dolphins, whales, Moorish Idols, sand sifting stars, and flounders. You may think it seems silly to lump Nautiluses in the same category as some of the fish listed above, however I find them all unsuitable for a feasible aquarium - some more than others.

My wholesaler gets them occassionally here(in malaysia). The last batch of them he sold to our local Marine Aquarium but they have a refridgium tank to display them.

Wonderful creature but very hard to keep.
