Nearly averted Stream disaster!

My 6200 is on a magnet. The part that slides into the top of the stream must have worn down because the Stream came loose. Somehow the Stream cord caught onto the clip that no longer fit (It stayed attached to the magnet) and the Stream didn't fall.

It didn't fall down, which would have been a DISASTER. But it did move around quite a bit and scratched my beautiful tank. Very big bummer.

I learned - 1) Check to make sure these stay snug and 2) make SURE the cord on these is taught so the Stream can't fall down onto your SB or hit a coral or clam.

Is this usual? I don't have another slide in clip so I'll take another Stream apart to see which wore out. The clip or the top of stream.

I HOPE THIS GETS TO TUNZE! I'd say this is a big design flaw and could lead to disaster. It should be a more tight fit. This Stream is probably about 5-6 months old.

I think it was the slide in clip. The took one off my other 6200 and slid it in and it was more secure.

It must have just been months of vibration. The other one seemed a little loose as well in both.

I guess I should just buy new clips? Is this normal? Should they be replaced regularly?

Thanks,

David

Weird, I am not using the magnets, but the erector set mounting pack, however, I can't imagine how the stream might fall off the pivot point mounting. Short of it being lifting a 1/2 inch, I can't imagine any other way for that mount to fail. As for the cord clip at the top, it seems just like a cable management tool, and not some kind of safety backup. Get a bunch of zip ties to snug down cords properly if you want a good backup.

Want my opinion on what happened? Somehow, the stream cord got tugged or pulled, when it got tugged it lifted the stream off the mount and it slowly fell on it's own, slowly tugging cable through the cord clip until you found it..

Hey jb - it didn't get lifted - the slide in clip came detached from the Stream housing! The clip that you insert by taking off the screen. It's a tight fit but the fit came loose. The other streams show wear as well. It might be something with the 6200's since they vibrate/move more than the 6100's.

If you take the stream off the magnet and hold the clip - you shouldn't be able to shake the Stream body itself. If you can, it has worn down. My 6100 still seems pretty snug, but both my 6200's are a little loose.

I don't know what to say, I have seen this only once before because a pump came in for repair that had the slide crazy glued in place, I can send you a couple new ones.

Hi Roger just read my post - hope it didn't sound like I was mad. Of course I'm not, I just wanted to see if this was usual. Although IMO it's not a very secure method to hold up a 5,000 GPH pump.

If I could get 2 new ones I'd appreciate it. I'll pay, of course. I'm contemplating securing the 2 together but I'm unsure how to do it, that is not so obvious.

I've got a couple things from ya before, if you don't have my addie just LMK and I'll pm you.

Thanks,

David

Ah gotcha, I didn't even think about that piece (obviously). I just installed a new 6080 in my tank and that piece went in so tightly it didn't even occur that it could have came out..
