Neat Experience

Ive been watching one of my Pepperment shrimp the last couple of days as she fans all the eggs in her tail pretty neat. Well last night she let them all go, my whole tank was filled with baby peps. It was like watching the national geographic channel in my own house! There were thousands of these brine shrimp baby size guys, my molly was just going to town sucking them up. It happened about 1/2 hr after my lights went off, good thing for moon lights or I would have never seen it, It looked like I stirred up my tank with my turkey baster there were so many of them. The only thing that really caught my eye was that all the floating particles were the same size, which stumped me untill I looked closer to see them kicking.

Just thought Id share, neat stuff.

Awesome... I always seemed to miss mine when they'd hatch. I remember reading stories of people with sizeable fuges that they would find babies months later. But on the tank I had them in, there's that strainer sock, not even a snowballs chance.

That's just plain awesome.

Peppermint shrimp are relatively simply to raise. You can raise them with flake food and live bbs.

I don't see any anymore, cause there so small, the only reason I seen them in the first place is cause they were all floating in the water colum, now they must be on the rock and would be impossible to see, but if I happen to see them and have extras then it will be peppermint for everybody!

The larvae are pelagic and will float in the planktonic layer. They're highly autotrophic (attracted to light) and generally will be eaten or sucked up by the filter in a matter of minutes.

If you want to learn about raising peppermint shrimp, April Kirkendoll's book is the place to start (it's the Joyce Wilkerson clownfish book for peppermint shrimp).

I didn't think they could be raised in home aquariums, Im not going to do anything special for them, if some made it to my fuge maybe they will get lucky, other than that it would be all luck if some made it to adulthood.

It was still one of the coolest experiences ive had with my new tank!

Maybe I took some pointers from Mike and "set the mood" for my tank to get them going. :)

So Mike its Barry White untill the fry come, then Peter Paul and Mary for raising, right?

THANKS ALOT BRI.

I just looked at my CBS and one is packing a cra* load of eggs... Kinda cool, big blue mass of eggs.

Nope, didn't laugh... you have to try harder Lisa. It'll help not to predict the laughter. Now, if Bri had asked... in his own thread...

Hello, TBS? Is this funny?
