That site smells like the stuff that makes grass green. Of course only 1% of the ocean is protected when you count all of the square miles of ocean that are in the middle of nothing, just like 1% of my house is vacuumed if you count the walls, ceiling, doors, appliances, furniture and air around it all. My house is gross! Obviously I need a few dozen more vacuums, donations please.
Those pro-closure organizations are the worst of the worst, just because someone posts numbers online doesn't mean they make any sense if you stop to think about them. In socal they're trying to close "only" 10% of shoreline, which is where 90% of the fishing happens to take place since the rest is called lifeless sand, using the same kind of fact-free "science" as that site.
Be more cynical, that goes double whenever an environmental organization tells you anything about anything.
