Hey guys, I need about 16" of 6-8" acrylic tube, cast prefered. Any of you guys have any spare left over from a DIY or know where I can get the stuff for a reasonable price? Most places seem to want you to buy like 5' - 10' of the stuff...

USPS "Priced by foot, sold in 5 foot sections only." I have some 6" by 32" and 36" height extruded if interested? about $2/feet and shipping is additional. What is your zip?

usplastic sells cast acrylic tube by the foot here

Hijack: I am in the same boat.

I am a beginner at diy, so could somebody tell me how thick the acrylic walls of a 6" wide and 24-30" tall skimmer need to be?

Hey Kurt did that one place I tell you about not pan out?

I havent called them because I am not sure if I will be out there any time soon :(. While that price wasnt bad...I dont know if I want to pay that price + shipping. I was hoping to find somone who would sell thier leftovers cheap or find some locally. If none of those pan out I will likely give them a call.

Hmmm The price at McMaster isnt too bad... its like $20/ft for the 6" stuff. Its over 2x as much for the 8" stuff though. I dont know if I really need 8" anyway though. Thats some pretty big stuff.

Oh, and ... why not make a rectangular skimmer/ca reactor instead of a round one?

If 6" tube costs you $24 (assuming the $2/inch cost) ... you could probably find 4 pieces of flat acrylic for like $2 if you check out scrap bins at, say, Tap Plastics. Just a thought.

For my money and DIY effort, most of my things will be rectangular.

Well I was able to get a piece of 6" OD x 18" for $25 shipped on Ebay. That turned out to be by far the best deal I could find w/out buying a huge piece. Thx guys!

Personally I dont think a square skimmer would work as well as a round one. Plus it would look like Azz, thats reason enough to go round :)

i never have seen a square azz.

post pics of your home made skimmer as you progress. i would love to make my own as well instead of paying a lot of money for stuff i can either get from work for cheap/ free, and make it myself.

heck, with the90g setup i ran across for a great deal, i dont have to DIY the stand or canopy since it came with those items. i have to make something in the tank...

Why do you think this?

Can you tell me who you get it from??

I think the guys store was called estreetplastics. If you do a search for "Acrylic Tube" you will find an auction of his. You may have to go through a few pages though to find one though.
