I have a 29, with a soon to be 10g sump, right now it is softies, zoos shrooms, but in the future (hopefully soon) i plan on addign 156 watts of T5. I want to do a few SPS adn LPS, lie ka Gorgonian or two, a green slimer, and a monti cap.

If I keep the SPS and LPS number low, can i get away with water changes and calcium supplements, and not need to get a calcium reactor?

I would find a regular schedule to add calcium, or maybe use b-ionic, but im not too sure what it is exactly.

Thanks in advance!

i was under the impression that using a 2-part supplement should be ok generally...provided you test ocassionally, although i am far from expert in this aspect of the hobby.

I don't see why not, I have been under the impression that Calcium Reactors were primarily for the larger tanks in which it is not cost effective to use supplements. Just as long as you keep it up near 450 -500 mg. I couldn't imagine the problem.

i agree... in a small tank you are going to spend more time and effort trying to get a CA reactor configured correctly than anything. they just arent made for smaller setups. i guess you could do a custom one or turn one waaaay down to work in a smaller system, but IMO it would be more work than its worth.

Dosing with a 2 part is OK. But to make it less time consuming everyday. You could add a Tunze auto topoff with a small Kalk reactor. I have an old 7gal Instant Ocean salt bucket that I put a small DIY kalk reactor in. No need to add supplements everyday or worring about a tank crash while away for a week or more.

if i go away i will surely find some way to do it, but i wont mind dosing daily, it gives me something to do once my HW is done
