Need a new return pump would like your opinons

Well I had a 1262 posted awhile back for $80. It was less than a year old. Oops! :sad2: Keep your eye open in the selling forum, I see one occasionally. I really liked mine, too. The only reason why I got rid of it was to go external and run penductors on my new setup.

Haliea the company that makes the pump for Aquamedics also makes the pump for the Reef Octopus skimmers, which I have. My skimmer runs on the size of OR you where thinking of buying. As far a the big powerhead style pumps I think they are as good as anything out there.
If you where going to cough up the the cash for a Eheim your better off getting a Iwaki or a panworld. The real motor style external pumps are always going to be more reiable by design.
But thats not your price range. Between MAG, Quiet ones, and OR's. I'd go OR hands down.

Take the Mag and tear it apart....soak all parts overnight in some white vinager...reassemble and you wont have start-up problems....I do that about once every 5 or 6 months and never have a problem with startup on any of my mags. I am running a Mag 18 to power my skimmer atm. I also have an OR6500 and it is a bit touchy with restarting and OR's are terrible at handling any head pressure at all.

I'm going with einsteins on this, soak the impeller in vinegar or better yet diluted muriatic acid, works faster and will completely clean it up. You'd be surprised how much difference this makes.

My sump is a 55 gal. tank and I don't think I should risk drilling it to try and run an external pump. To many of them are made out of tempered glass. I'm going to try cleaning up the Mag again this morning and see if I can get it to work. Where do you buy muriatic acid at?
If I can't get the mag running by mid morning I'm going to have to order something.
What kind of fittings do the eheims have on them? It looks like just barbed fittings? Can you hook them up to PVC somehow? Also where's the cheapest place to get the eheims?

I wish I did. It went pretty fast, too. I had it sold within an hour and had several people wanting it if my 1st deal fell through.
It's a great pump for internal use. Other pumps might be good but none has a reputation to have pumps running for 10+ years. It also had a very low heat transfer compared to a Mag 9.5 I used to run. Plus it's a very quiet pump.
Btw, the Eheims have threaded fittings.

I'm def. going to pick up some of that muriatic acid and soak it real good.Similar threads
