a couple of months ago on a field trip with my sons school, a kid pulled what i thought was a larva out of a creek (in ky)...


i took it home and put it in our little 5g freshwater fish tank...

i thought it might hatch, might eat a fish or might get eaten.

it seems it has taken a 4th option... its alive and hasnt eaten anything... been eaten.... and hasn't transformed...

we just moved the fish from a 5 to a 10.... i ran our fish net around the substrate... and there it was... wiggling.... and upset with me...

i put it over in the 10... it swam around panicked for a few seconds and found an artificial plant to hug up on...

im begining to think its a worm instead of a larva....

when i find my camera i can take a pic....

i have had no luck w/ googling it...

so im looking for a way to id the thing....

its about 3 inchs long... 1/4 inch diameter translucent w/ a brownish tint...

one end is tapered off.. that seems to be the head...

the other end is thicker and has what looks like tentacles... very cthulhu looking...

it dosnt seem interested in biting... its not bitten anyone yet.... w/ some rather rude handling...

i assume its eating either fish food or fish byproduct...

drat seems to have been a "crane fly"
