Need Advice on a Digital Camera

I am going to buy a digital camera but I do not know anything about them. I am not a tech person. My computer is 8 years old and I still have dial up Internet. The cameras I have do not take good pics of the tank. I am looking to spend up to 200 dollars but I will only be using the camera to take pics of the tank so cheaper the better. I would like some zoom but nothing fancy. So, what should I get and where should I go?

thanks

Steve

Steve, I use a Kodak Easy Share DX7440 with a printer dock. You've seen some of my pics on here I'm sure. It works great, 4.1 Megapixels and has both optical and digital zoom. It's great for the money and is in your price range.

And if you need a computer, I have a few extra laying around the house. PM me. :)

The number of megapixels is one of the key factors when deciding on a digital camera. The more photo diodes (MPs) usually means a higher resolution/picture quality. Here's a link to a site that is very usefully for reading reviews once you have decided on a few models to compare. It has a lot of other good info as well. http://www.dpreview.com/

We just got the cannon s2 on ebay, and it takes some Amazing pics.
We had the 5 megapixel kodak easy share camera and it couldnt focus on anything close up at all. Could NOT take a macro shot.
I rec a camera with manual focus.

We got the cannon s2 for 200$ less than retail on ebay. (new)

Make sure it has a Macro mode w/ an optical zoom (digital zoom is worthless). Anything 4.0 mp and up will give great results.

If you want you can check out my new camera, it's in your price range. I'll take a couple of Macro shots w/ it today and post some pictures on my older thread (been wanting to check some growth shots out anyways.)

PM or call me if you want to see the camera.

Sam

i need a motherboard for an amd 800mhz processor

how much is the kodak? your pics do look good

Hey again Steve, Don't don't why I never got an email about your response to this thread. Only motherboards I have are in complete systems. I have a complete AMD system that I think is a 1.2GHz....I'll fire one up and see that I can make you an unbeleivable deal on.

I paid $149 for the DX7440 when I bought it. That was new.

Although more than 200, I love mine. It's older now and I can't remember the megapixels but if I had to choose between optical zoom and more than say 3 or 4 megapixels to stay in my range, I would go with the optical zoom. I have 6x optical and wish I had more. Like reelfreak said, digital zoom is worthless.

well if you ever sell it let me know dan. Compared to my cameras thatââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s new to me. That camera would last me another 15 years. I still have a camcorder that uses full size vhs tapes, it the kind that you sit on your shoulder
