I'm having a touch time placing my new clam in the tank.

Problem is, that there is a piece of rock already attached to his foot... what should I do here? Glue the piece of rock to the live rock? Try to take the rock off the foot?

do not take the little rock off of the foot. it could stress out and kill the clam. what type of clam is it any way? crocea, squamossa, dersa? may make it a little easier to know where you should place it.

Hi,

It is a maxima.

Here is a picture of it.

Hi,

Very nice looking clam but it sure looks like a Crocea to me, not a Maxima. Either way I would not try to remove the rock as you could end up doing more harm than good.

How much light do you have in the tank? Can't you leave it where it is?

Thank you for your reply.

Well, I could leave it there I guess. It seems to be diong fine and I've been target feeding it micro*vert. I've just read that they can stress out if not secured to a rock.

Dang! It was labelled as Maxima. Oh well, I love the clam, it's very pretty. I would really like to place it on a rock. Any suggestions?

I have it in a Nano Cube (I know, sorry) until my 60 gallon is ready for it.

I have heard that if you take an ice cube and tr to put it as close to the clams foot as possible it will detach and try to move by itself.

I've never tried it, just heard of of it on this forum.

Tried that - ice melts everytime I put in the tank.... Sorry I could not resist it! nice crocea!! Mine have attached to small snail shells and I slowly peeled them off. 3-4 different times with no ill affected. and yes the snails were very slow moving.

removing anything from the foot of your clam can be very detrimental to the clam. If it's not bothering anything just leave it be. Croceas are found in the rocks in the wild but as long as you care for them the sand bed is fine as well. I have had a few on the sandbed that are growing large.

I will be getting a small RBTA soon. Should I take out the clam, and put it in a QT while the RBTA finds a place to plant itself? How about place a clear cup with holes over the clam?
